By hand...thats all... I was saving up the money to rebuild the motor...and was getting pissed that it was taking so long to save...not to mention the cost of the parts... So, I kept busy by cleaning the case. I sat on the sofa...watched some tv...and just polished away!!! I even had to stop for a few weeks, as I had rubbed a few blisters in my fingers..LOL I still have the 3 to 400 red shop rags in a garbage bag to prove it. I need to clean them..but the wife said...NOT IN MY WASHER YOUR NOT!!!! So, havent taken care of it yet.... just red shop rags, Mothers AL polish...time, and effort...thats all....

Then, I used about 400 red shop towels and about 2 to 3 cans of the big Mothers Al polish (jewelers rouge), and the buffed to a nice shine. I cleaned all of the oil passages, etc... I estimate that I have between 160 to 180 hours worth of time into the case..... but when you dont have enough money to build the motor right then.... it was time well spent as it kept me interested in the project.....

Yeah, that is a thing of beauty, and turbobrat930 is quite clearly INSANE.

It makes me sad thinking about the car that engine goes into being driven. I mean, really, there might be some crud from the road that gets near that beautiful work of art, or grease, or brake dust, or, who knows, but it's going to get dirty somehow, and that is a shame!

Turbobrat930,

Consider using Zoop Seal to fill in the pores of the metal, this will prevent the case from oxidizing for a couple of years. Would be a shame to see all that effort prematurely fade, but as an old metallurgist once said, "once the Bauxite leaves the mine it spends every minute trying to go back."

Beautiful work.

Thanks for the compliments guys.... I am happy on how it turned out... I know it wont stay pretty for ever...but like I said... I needed something to do while saving money for the rebuild..

John, I am buying some zoopseal for a set of polished wheels...so I will apply it to the case as well.
