How can you tell which rod is which? HELP
I have a few sets of rods that I aquired recently. From what I understand the # on the beam does not determine the application. If not then how do you tell?
Here are 2 of the beam #'s im trying to identify. 911.103.103.0r 911.103.105.0r Can anyone offer some input? Kurt ![]() ![]() ![]()

Kurt,
OK, we know they are at least 2,2 rods, you can tell that by the 911 part number, as opposed to 2,0 rods which say 901. Best way is to measure the center-to-center distance with a caliper. You measure between the bottom of the little end and the top of the big end, then measure big and little and subtract half of both distances to get the center-to center length. That will tell you whether they are 2,4-2,7 rods or 3.0 or later. . . . To tell 2,2 from 2,4 and later you can also measure the big end journal width, it's wider in the later cars. When the reduced the bearing journal diameter to stroke the crank they made it wider to maintain the same area.

Is there a chart that shows the lengths? Also the first rod (part of a set) appears to be black in color rather than the raw steel look of the others. Does that signify anything?

Kurt
911.103.103.0R = 2.2 rods (66mm crank) 911.103.105.0R = 2.4/2.7 rods (70.4mm crank)
