2.4L Twin Plug conversion

Hello all,

I am working on building my 73 Targa race-car SVRA/HSR spec.
What are the benefits of upgrading to a twin-plug ignition? Is it a signifigant HP/Torque increase, or is it mostly just for looks/bragging rights? Anyone have dyno data comparing?

Also, are parts available to convert a 2.4 to twin-plug, or is it a matter of watching for used/original parts to become available?
What is needed other than the heads and distributor?

The main benefit is that you can run higher compression ratios without detonating. I think about .5 of a point is a do-able increase.

The power increase comes from the higher compression ratio and anything else you do with the twin plugging, such as advancing the timing or changing cams, which is now possible because of the quicker, more thorough flame propagation in the combustion chamber.

Check this post from Steve Weiner's (Rennsport Systems) website for a complete description of the benefits.

Anyone that is familiar with this.... does this look like the correct cap and rotor?

Is that a reasonable price if so?

Thats the correct Marelli cap & rotor ONLY for the Marelli distributor used on the 906, 911R, 2.8 RSR, and a few others.

Was there another option for twin plug distributors?
I talked to a shop in Florida that has a twin plug RS type car they use in vintage racing (and has some period racing history), and they got an original twin plug cap and rotor and made an adapter plate to an MSD distributor, which is kind of what I was thinking of doing. That shop can also modify my current heads to take twin plugs, but said the cap and rotor alone would be by far the most expensive part of the swap, and would likely cost near $2k. Which is why I'm confused at a set for $350...
