Ok, I have mailed the computer and chip to Russell Berry for him to fix.

I hope to have this thing going soon.

Peppy - Thanks for creating this thread - I'm using it as one of my main points of reference for when I go down a similar path this winter. Question - why didn't you use the wooden cradle that you used for the drop when you did the install? It looks like a rolled-up rag was used between the jack pad and the bottom of the engine in this pic. Did you do anything to keep the engine from wobbling side-to-side as you moved it around?

That's my first anxiety point - avoiding damage to the engine with the floor jack, or performing a "drop" off the jack! I've read all the "drop" threads, but I like your minimalist approach.

Best of luck and great work, looking forward to reading about a successful launch!

GK I got the idea for the rags from here 87 Carrera engine drop (23 of 36)

Syncroid did the pictures and the engine balanced a lot better than with the contraption I made. The engine and transmission is pretty stable on the jack. Also the power unit is about 3 inches lower.

Peppy, Anxiously awaiting the next installment of your saga...what's going on, man?

I too will be performing a rebuild soon and will use your thread as a reference. I also have a friend that has successfully completed several rebuilds, no Porsche rebuilds, but he has all the tools (gauges, lifts, engine stand, etc.).

Looking forward to you making an announcement that your machine has roared to life!

I screwed up the computer and am waiting for repair.

I hope to turn the engine over to build oil pressure tomorrow.

peppy 11-12-2012 12:25 PM

I turned the key and she spun over with ease. The oil light went out in just a few seconds, no oil leaks yet.

Now to get that computer back in, the suspense is killing me.

Well done Peppy...can't wait to see the post that you've got it started!

Will you be posting a summary of the build with a rundown of costs?

Great Post

Still working on it, will get it done this week if I don't hit any further snags. So far I've used parts from 3 other computers, it's coming together. Thanks for sending me the link to the thread!
