Joe Gibbs Oil

Joe Gibbs racing offers synthetic oils. They are represented to be high in ZDDP etc.

Anybody use these in their air-cooled 911 engines?

What does Gibbs say about it? "Up here you need an oil that will fight hard and lube its guts out"?

If you look at the msds for the 15w50, it has a flash point of 386.6F, which is very low, especially given it's a synthetic. It smells of marketing to me...

Also:

"From 0.5 to 1.5 percent zinc compounds; contains 0.1% as Zn."

I actually carry the stuff, but honestly am suspicious as well. I haven't seen any evidence of serious testing or analysis. They've written that this is forthcoming but that's been a long time.

Just like Danica Patrick "Peak" (same brand as the coolant) Motor Oil. Just because she's on the bottle, doesn't mean it'll perform :-)

JGR oil

We have used this oil in our 911 race car for the last 2 years and have had it
apart to freshen before this season and it was very nice, actually one of the first 911 race engines where you could have re used the rod bearings, the engine had almost 40 hours and it cracked a cyl head, it is a 3.8 making just over 113 hp per liter. we use the break in oil on the dyno with great results, the customers that have used it all have had positive results.

What about Brad Penn Racing Oil?

It is rumored to be the same formulation as the "old" Kendall GT-1 "green" oil.

Does the high ZDDP give it the green tint?
