New Rebuild Spewing Oil...
But at least I know where it is coming from. Everything is dry except for the joint between the drivers side cam line where it enters the case just behind the distributor.
![]() The oil leaks down from the fitting to where the sheet metal meets case and then travels along the edge of the case to the bottom seam and all over the place after that. After cleaning it up and letting it sit over night I have no drops under the engine so this is a while running pressure related leak. It did not make its presence know until I went for the 1st drive and stopped to fill up the tank... $75 DOH! Can I simply tighten the fitting more? I thought I read in the rebuild book not to tighten it too tight... I also am considering using some curil-T to seal it up. It is a new pipe so should be no concerns about it being worn. Or should I simply buy a new part? <- not my desired answer, BTW I'll obviously have to remove the distributor to get to it. Not an issue as I finally learned that the '5' on the crank pulley was actually part of the '25' .. heheh setting timing was a fun learning experience. Best regards, Michael

Funny, I had the exact same leak happen just after my rebuild. I retightened the fitting, and all has been good since.

Well, I guess I'll try snugging it up a little first and take it for drive #2

Use no sealant of any kind. It's a mechanical compression fitting. It's either too loose to seal OR someone has damaged the mating surfaces by tightening it too much. Either way the case fitting and the line can be replaced. You have come too far to let a little thing like this slow you down.
Now that the motor is running can you send me a PM about the tail? I want to have one on the race car this winter, so no rush.

Most people under tighten them just incase, cause my mechanic says its easy to strip the threads on these.. Snug should do it, if you over tighten, youll know, but wont harm much even if you did.. $37 part for our host.
