NEVER trust part numbers. They can be regrinds and you'd never know it without putting them on a cam doctor.

the part # suggest there the early solex cams, but like kenikh said they could have been reground at some point.

These cam were running in a 2.7 MFI.
What does the symbol could be.
Assuming this is never regrind. What could it be by the looking at the pictures.

Dear All,

on the cam is a production date of 20-1-71. so it cannot be a Solex Cam.

Who can help?

Bob

my bad, 110 could be either solex, L, or E right side cams. What is the number on the left cam? Assuming no regrind, running MFI and if it ends in 181 than they are E cams. Hope this helps, but I would still have them checked.

Cam Doctor???

I've been wondering if checking the cams is as simple as mounting the cam in a cam tower, using a degree wheel and a dial indicator to map lift using the rocker arm lever ratio to convert cam lift to valve lift.

Anyone ever try this??

That is basically an analog Cam Doctor. The advantages of the Cam Doctor is that it can calculate the various lift settings, overlap, etc. without manual mathematical histrionics. At $25 from most cam shops, money well spent for me.

This is the only way you can actually follow what the valve will see operating real time in a porsche engine. With a cam doctor you can read the design as a translating program, unless you rig up a cam tower and head you will never see the CORA "cam on rocker actuation" finger type follower and it will be different. The only draw back or tricky part is establishing the intake and exhaust center lines. so always start and stop at the same place with the degree wheel and move the dial indicator to the opposing vavle.

regards

Thank you
I will bring them to a cam doctor to measure lift and angle.

Here further pictures of my MFI pump drive cam of my 2.7 MFI engine.

Hello again,

I think that these cams are regrinded.

See picture?

It looks like that I have redrinded 911S Cams.

All intakes lifts are around 37.2 mm. I measured min. lift against the max. lift of the cam lobe.
All exhaust lifts are around 36,35 mm

If I look in Waynes book on page 207 i see a lot of data.

Where is the reference of the cam If I like to measure them without the crankshaft as a reference.

Cam I measure from the notch?
The 17° aqnd 146° is the spread between intake and exhaust from TDC to TDC cam.
In wayes book it is called lobe center see page 86. It is the distance between the lobe centers.

Best regards
Bob
