Piston rings for J&E help

I received a set of rings from J&E with my pistons.

The top ring and the middle ring look exactly the same.

Shouldn't the middle ring be channeled or have a step in it?

The set was sealed and one package was labeled top, the other ones were stacked together however I see no difference between the top and middle rings.

Top and second rings are the same on the Goetze ringset that JE supplies with those pistons. Both are a top radial width of 0.167in and thickness of 1.5mm, iron, taper face, phosphate coated.

Thank you sir !!!

I may have mixed one of the top rings in with the middle rings when I was checking end-gaps but if there is no difference I wont worry about it.
