best dizzy for rs 2.7
I am aquiring a long block with 2.7 rs pistons and solex cams,I will be running weber 40's. What would be an ideal dist. to use in a late case(74). Would a 2.4T unit be adequate or would I be giving up power? Steve

Chiro,
Look around for a Bosch 0 231 184 004 distributor. I believe this is what you would want. Dana |

+1 on the 004. I had one in my hand at work today and put it on the shelf.

Since the 72-73 911T, E, and S all had the same dizzy and the RS is just a 2.4S with bigger pistons the 72T dizzy will work fine (in fact I used this on my 72 2.7 race car for several years). The curve is different than the factory RS curve but not by enough to notice. Just set 35 degrees advance at 6000 RPM and leave the vacuum line off.

I like the 10 BTDC initial of the .004 for winter cold starts in my neck of the woods

I am surprised that the T ,E and S share the same advance curve.if that is so then I will use my T dizzy with the higher rev limiter rotor at least for now.Any differing opinions,am I reading that chart correctly? STeve

You are indeed reading the chart correctly. The only significant difference in curves is below 1500 RPM.

Thanks all! Would I see any better off idle performance by leaving the vacuum retard in place ,I have the vacuum ports in my manifolds. As long as I dont lose any power on top I would like to optimize streetability and fuel mileage too. I will be installing the dist. today ,I guess I will static time it to the line and see if it fires up ,then time it with the strobe. S

I don't know if it will help or not. I think I ran with the vacuum on my 2.7. Try it both ways and see what you think.

Ive got the engine installed,no fire yet,My battery is too low to spin it over fast enough. gotta lower it off the stand and jump it with my only other car that is 12 volt.then I will attempt to strobe it. Any suggestions on firing it up for the first time regarding eyeballing the advance or retard.Wish me luck! Steve
