Pardon the question if it's already been asked, but what is the benefit to using this filter console instead of the motor mounted oil cooler? Isn't more cooling for the oil a good thing?

Lipin, the front right fender cooler seems to be more then adequate so far for the street. The additional filtration is very nice right before your brgs...maybe that's why Porsche discontinued the motor mount coolers on 3.6s...

Good point, that makes sense. Was it a simple bolt-on part swap? Or was there machining and modifications required to make it fit? I have a 930 case that I'm building up right now, which is why I ask. Thank you

Yes, bolts right up to 3.3 case, but you will need to fab up an engine tin for that area and set up an alternative oil inlet cuz you'll be loosing the one on the cooler...

Shift Coupler Macgyvered
The PO (Tony) came over this weekend for a ride in his old baby and we got it done, but not w/o a couple of false starts
![]() First, the reconditioned starter isn't strong enough to turn over the new motor unless it stopped just right when previously shut down. We were able to push the motor over to an easier start position and the starter did it's job. However, that's when problem 2 came into view. We couldn't find reverse, which we both new was there cuz we've both used it before The shift coupling bushings had up and disintegrated. No prob, Tony help me Macgyver it with a little blue silicone tubing and some duct tape...Thanks Tony![]() ![]() ![]() New shift coupler bushings and a 700 ft-lb torque starter ordered from our host, so these issues should be sorted soon ![]()

There is a guy over on the 911 forum that sells the bushings made out of delrin. There is zero slop once installed. I put those in to replace the stock ones that only lasted about 3 years. Huge improvement in Shifting.

New High Torque Starter
Here's what the new high torque starter from out host looks like and I should have it in by the end of the week. Looks like it will be a lot easier to reach the upper stud & nut

Make sure to take a peek to be sure that the ring gear isn't on backwards while you are in there. If there is nothing wrong with the stock starter its my guess that's what's wrong with it.

Will do, but I'm thinking if there was a ring gear issue causing the starter to misalign then I'd get some grinding or at least some spinnig of the pinion, which I never got. It would either start or I'd get a solenoid click then nothling, so sounds like a weak motor to me cuz all the voltages checked out... I also checked the pinion on the old starter and it looked the same as when I installed it.

ring gear on backwards???
How do you determine the orientation of the ring gear? This could have been the problem which caused me to replace both ring gear and starter! Both were severely chewed up. I still have my motor out of the car, and would like to check, just in case. I thought maybe there was a alignment problem which had caused the damage. Philip

Phillip, some ring gears are beveled or stepped on one side, but I don't think they ate on the 930. Check yours and let us know!
