Amazing, is there any part of this car left untouched, I think this has been quite an undertaking. I just don't have the skills or the time.

Nope, I think I have touched and modified most everything on this pcar:) Thank you for the complements but I don't have skills I just have no fear! LOL, you're Intercooler will be the final piece in this beautiful puzzle.

Once you ride a hard tail 29er nothing else will do!

This one is blinged out at about $5K, but you can build one up for a lot less...I've found that with a hard tail 29er especially if you race it the Kenda Small Block 8 tires are the best...and of course SRAM components and the Mavie Crosssmax wheels are simply bullet proof!!!

Half the people at the last 12hr race I did had those bikes, so it must be a sweet ride, but I didn't see anybody else on a Mamasita;)

2nd Garrett Turbo

We decided to get a spare turbo since we're having so much trouble with them and the Garrett's turnaround times on warranty work has been at a snails pace so far...

Once the new turbo is in and the new intercooler has been plumbed we should be back on the dyno trying to make 500hp+ by 1.2 Bar of boost.

I recently came across your thread (while I wait for my new to me '86 930 with 27K on the clock to get looked over and spiffy'd up) and have spent all day admiring all you've done. A Fantastic adventure - humbling yet inspiring at the same time. Curious, and I may have missed it, but why did you switch intercoolers (black to this one)?

John

p.s. looking at what you've done has me feeling that 'itch', but I've got to keep things in check. The Turbo is a life long aspiration to own and fate is putting in my hands (1 owner - my dad - and I drove it to my prom - see pictures)

but I know what happens when the mod bug bites (1200+ rwhp and rwtq that's gone 8.5 in the 1/4 - it never ends once you open up that can of worms ;) )

This new IC will make more HP and flow better then the old one and that's why I decided to switch it out.

yep, cyclist with quadrilateral calfs...they are so big I got Bob Roll's signature on one of them a few years ago;)

CaptainCalf 01-10-2013 07:55 AM

Now that we have 2 GT3582R turbos we've decided they are just not big enough to get to where we want to be, so back to the drawing board for a new turbo. Our goal is more torque then horsepower so we will prolly end up custom sizing one of the turbos listed below in order to get there...

Master power super 70
KKK
Gr35r
To4z

CaptainCalf 02-25-2013 06:34 AM

The new turbo has been installed and fab work done on piping and drain tank so with any luck the dyno will tell us this week that we've reached our goal of 500 ft-lbs of torque at the rear wheels...

New vs old turbo pics

It looks this new turbo would eat the old one for breakfast:p
