3.2L Engine Build - "S" Cam Question
Spent the past 3 hours reviewing cam threads and I'm still confused
![]() I'm building a 3.2L engine to drop into my '83 SC. Its a street driver, but I hope to get it to occasional DE track events for fun in the future. So far I have: 46mm PMO's with 38mm venturi's B&B exhaust with 1 3/4 ID tubes Electromotive single plug ignition The base 3.2L engine that I bought was rebuilt with new Mahle P&C's. It was running with the stock Motronic engine management system. I haven't opened up the engine yet, but the receipts indicate that the previous owner installed Mahle 95mm, 9.5:1 compression ratio pistons (notes show that the piston are stamped 95 P36H on the underside, and 55 over 1095 stamped in the top). I'm guessing that these pistons are shaped (dome) similar to the stock 3.2 pistons made for Motronic. I'm considering purchasing a set of Web Cam 4 bearing "S" profile cams (Web Cam part # 05-061, description "911s (67-73) Mechanical Injection" . Will the S cams work with the pistons that I currently have or will it be tight for piston to valve clearance/tolerance. I've seen multiple references (Wayne's rebuild book, Rennsport) that indicate that this is a good combination, but neither provides any recommendations regarding compatible pistons. Thanks, Gordo

Don,
I strongly recommend to talk to John ('camgrinder' at the Pelican) before you make any cam related decisions for any engine configuration. ![]() Cheers, Chris |

The 95P36 pistons are the stock Mahle pistons with the CIS style swirl dome. You have to be careful when selecting a cam with these pistons because of the potential for piston to valve interference at moderate valve lift. John Dougherty (Camgrinder) can help you select the right cam for your application. Dougherty Racing Cams ![]()
