carrera chain tensioner install
Wayne's book says to prime the tensioner before install, which I did, but find I need to compress it almost to the closed position and reinsert pin in order to have enough room to compress it, which bleeds out the oil. Doesn't that defeat purpose of priming it?
Thanks ![]() |

carrera chain tensioner install
Whoops. I meant "have enough room to install", not "have enough room to compress"

There is still oil in the tensioner even with it compressed and pin installed. You need this oil in there to prevent an air pocket when the oil system pressurizes the tensioner.
The tensioner is both sprung and oil fed for redundancy. |

Don't worry about it, mostly I read that trying to be perfect about priming is a waste of time. It'll get fed oil pressure off and on for the life of its install. I didn't mess with priming at all with my rebuild.
