I am having my engine rebuilt and the mechanic said its a 930 Turbo S engine which according to him he has not seen many of. they have a had a bit of delay getting parts as some of the parts are from a 935. just seeing if any of you guys know anyhting about this engine and the good bad or anything?

I'm not very familiar with the differences between a 930 and 930S engine but definitely do your research before agreeing to a bill. I can't imagine there are many, if any, 935 specific parts in that motor. There really wasn't much in the way of an increase in HP over the standard 930 if i recall.

For a race motor, the 935 engine was pretty close to a 930 engine, so it all depends on how you look at the parts- the 935 and 936 used a production crankshaft and case, for example.

What is the engine model number? I would look for M30/69S, but I'm not sure.

Pictures would be nice but many of the go-fast parts are probably on the inside.

930/66 is just a generic post-1980 RoW 930 motor type. After they started re-importing the 930 to the US in 1986, those were 930/66.

Which doesn't mean that your car isn't a 930S.

If I understand correctly, all of these pre-1987 were Special Wishes cars built in Werk 1, and most were slants (flachbau). There's a good thread covering engine options - and most other aspects of the 930S/930SE models - on the 930 forum Slantnose, Slant nose,Slope, M505 factory 930S documents, registry, ultimate, flachbau.

But I also believed that the 930S came with better cams (SC?), and a K27 instead of the 3DLZ - which would account for the 330HP I seem to recall was quoted for these - an otherwise stock 930 with SC cams should make that.

Which isn't to say that Sonderwunschen couldn't/wouldn't build in more power if ordered. Seem to recall reading they built one German customer a 400HP car - which was more powerful than legally permitted for street use at that time...
