Over heating 3.2

I have a rebuilt engine witch a mechanic left out the O rings at the oil pump started the engine lost all oil Pressure at one point so it has been rebuilt 2 times!

Used same barrings.

now the timing light says it is running retarded and lean, the mechanic said it was the chip so bough Steve Wong chip well that did not work like I thought it would not in the first place,

now it is not running lean don't know about the retardation haven't checked it.

but what could it be??

can it be the cam's have been installed wrong? installed at a retared seating?

Would that mess up the computer and may lean it out? cus that what I,m thinking? what elce can it be? any help out there? Please what do I do?

carrera overheating?

Hello John
Are you using the same mechanic who forgot to put the oil pump o rings?
If yes i would go and ask some other mechanic to check your car.
First does your engine spin easy? With alternator belt of.If yes it is good start. Your timing is set by factory you cannot change it on distributor.
Next i would check the camshaft timing .This is very important. The timing should be 1,1-1,4 the best is 1.3...Have this check first.

But you can have your distributor off location and still run.

hi bruce
not on 1984-89 Carrera`s there is only one way to put in distributor...otherwise the engine will misfire....not run at all.

There is 12 different ways to install a distributor, 11 wrong. There is 4 oil pump seals in a bottom end pack. If you have 2 or 3 left over before you do the through bolts, you have to know youre wrong.

Hello John
Can you take it from the beginning? What was the reason you have rebuilt the engine.
Do you know what kind of main bearings you have in?Standart or?IN this condition the engine starts and run just over heats, right? How long does it take to over heat?
let me know if you like in an email..

hello Bruce
it does not matter how many ways is to put in distributor. In John case the car is not misfireing his car is overheating lets focus on that and try to help him.
BTW oil pump takes 3 o rings and 1 is for the case right?

Hi John
I think that is the best way to start from the bottom end:-).
I wish you good luck and if you have any Q in the future you got my mail.
To make it pull like a turbo all you have to do time the cams to 1.3+1/2.get a strait pipe for Catalytic converter and get a chip for your coputer from POWERCHIP in California...
Your Porsche will fly ....
