Hardware Sources
Where do you source your metric hardware from?
I buy some hardware from our host, but where do you guys source your standard metric hardware (studs, nuts, washers, etc.) from? I usually look at McMaster Carr, but their metric studs aren't really what I want. I would really like yellow zinc, 8.8 grade studs. Thanks for your input.

Local hardware store.
I guess i'm fortunate in that they have an incredible amount of metric fasteners on hand. They had CV joint bolts, window channel bolts , trim screws, etc.

Sign up to get an account and you're all set. However, since they are an industrial supplier, you have to buy a minimum quantity/bulk. Pieces of 25 to 50 to 100 are common requirements.

I must admit I recycle a lot. I inspect all the fasteners I have gathered over the year, clean them in a bead cleaner (an Eastwood vibrating bowl kind of thing) and then replace them in yellow zinc to match.
I can source fasteners locally, but some of the specific lengths are hard to buy in the smaller quantities (they want to sell me a box of 100 or something like that) and are frequently plated in silver. D. |

I have gone round and round on this- at the end of it, it's easier and cheaper to buy from Porsche, unless you need original headmarks. If you need original headmarks there is only one source, used pieces, which much be checked for necking down and corrosion.

Depends. For 1-10 pieces I'll get from pelican, dealer, or local hw store if available. For bulk stuff I order from MSC. Hard to beat their selection and price for bulk stuff. When I did the engine I just bought Pelican's HW kit. That was a good move.
