German 912 RS(R) Project

Hey Guys,

just a few pictures and details on our almost finished 912 RS project.
That happens when you have a 912 E shell that you see every day and start thinking what it could become........

Tell me how you like it.

Base was a 912 E 1976 we rolled (no welding) out the flares in the back, added a power brake booster and build a new engine for it because the original one went
into a Type 2 VW bus.

Engine specs:
7R 2,7 Case
2,8 Pistons from Mahle with JE pistons
2,7 crank
Pauter Rods
Twin plug dist. from Aaron Burnham (Thank you Aaron)
special exhaust from Duel racing (Netherlands), make 18HP more than trumpets
little extra parts from Joe at Axiom Motorsports Inglewoog (BIG HUGS!!)

RSR finished wheels
Bilstein yellow all around
Sparco seats with Alcantara
Sparco steering wheel
Wevo shifter
our own wiring harness (race specs with fuses to switch back in)
FIA Rollcage

thats all for now!
Will make updates as soon as it goes on....

Happy new year to everybody out there...

Thomas

Thanx..
Yeah i know a video would be great but the engine is not running yet...

i have to finish the electrics first. Will post a video and dyno sheets asap.

The goal is to hear and see it run in maybe 2 weeks (so realistic in 3 to 4 weeks)

If you take a close look at the pictures you see what else we have to work on

and that are customer cars and they go first.........

Thats the fate of the people who have to earn a living first..

RSR first time out on track

Hey guys,

didnīt had a chance to update the ongoing process of the car. We had to finish it and make sure we are ready to go with the club on the track in Metzt/France.
So finishing it was first......now some pics from the first trackday......and then maybe next week the last updates on the built.

So we had a great time on the track! The car is still not sorted out perfect but we are already doing good with 2.06.34 minutes at the Circuit de Chambley/Metz.
The track is 1,74 miles and just corners with the longets straight at 0.25 mls

The sound is incredible and it pulls strong at arround 253 hp at the backwheels.

Will post more pics soon..

Till then tell me what you think..........

Thomas

While it looks like a wonderful car and a beautiful project I think you have lost the right to call it a 912. 912s have 4 cylinders. While I am far from a purist, what you have built is a 911 RS replica on a 912 chassis. regardless, enjoy the ride, it appears that you have enjoyed the process.

Hello Matt,

i am really with you at donīt calling it a 912 anymore. But in the whole process that we built it, this phrase just burned in our minds. But youīre totally right!

It is a 911 RSR replica with a 912 E body!

And yes we enjoyed the build process and now we will definetly enjoy the rides! It runs beautifull and strong and what amased me the most was the handling with the Yokohama Semi Slicks. It was really good to handle even when it was swinging itīs tail

And the sound whooooooo..........:

Anyway i will soon post a video. Not sure how to do it right now......

Thanks for all the replys!

Always sideways......

Fix shoulder harness anchor position, please.

Tom

I hope that the finished (and driven) product has relocated the shoulder harnes mounts from where they are in the picture. Seats are not designed nor capable of handling belt loads in crashes. With the should belt anchors so far down below your shoulders you stand a very good chance of getting a compression fracture of the spine should you be so unfortunate as to have a crash. No racing organization would accept that mounting.

The best thing to do is to weld a cross bar across the main roll hoop, and mount the belts to that. You can get that bar at the right height (shoulder height would do fine), and to boot have shorter belts. Nylon stretches, and the general weight of opinion these days is that you want the belts as short as possible, because what is left will stretch a lot anyway. Too much stretch means more chance of body parts contacting car parts.

As an alternative, move the anchors up to shoulder height using the package tray, with some backing plates, preferably welded in, to make things strong.

Cool

As a retired AMGA certified climbing guide I can tell you that "static" nylon webbing stretches a whole lot less than racers claims it does. But angles of force are EVERYTHING in an impact. I have 7 spinal compression fractures. Certain things I have learned the hard way.

As for what to call the car? There is some discussion that the '76 912e chassis (generally made in '75 and called leftovers) were the same batch used to make the rare and somewhat unknown '76 911 Carrera homologation cars. Not many of them made and far less known than the '76 3.0 Carrera.

I think it would be more than appropriate to call your car a '76 RS rePlica

Some more pics from the finished car

Here are some more pics of the finished car. And for all out there....the belts are fatened to the rollcage like they used to be! But thanks for all the concerns.
Car is now realy running perfect after we set it up together with Peter Prosten.
Yeah might sound familliar to some of you out there.....he was a mechanic at the Kremer Team and he drove and still drives a lot of those really rare Porsches.
Will try to put up a dyno video and the sheets soon.
Till then have fun with the pics.

Always sideways

Thomas
