993 Plastic Intake for 3.0 - Do I need this part?
Hi,
I was hoping to get some advice on this intake. It looks like it has a broken piece. Do I need? I think it is where the airbox housing bolts to the intake, although I am not 100% sure. Is this area of any concern? It will be used on a 3.0 L engine that will be in a 77 chasis. I would use an aftermarket air filter, hopefully the Rothsport filter. I need to know before I buy it. It is hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like the intake is not broken but has a broken rubber stud mount still threaded into the thread boss.
Are you using this intake with individual throttle bodies? |

Hi Scott, thanks for replying. I was hoping you would reply. I wish it was for ITB's. I will be using the common throttle body.
I will check to see if it is just the rubber stud. Thanks. |

Thanks Bill and Scott. I really appreciate your advice. I have sent the money after looking at the pictures a little further. It looks to be okay. I have also asked the seller to have a quick look at that section just in case the plastic is damaged.

Thanks Bill and Scott for your advice, it is always appreciated. I have looked at the pictures, they appear to be as you said, a broken rubber piece. I have asked the sellers to examine the area to see if the plastic is broken. I trust him and have sent the funds.

You will have a great engine with this set-up. We had 2 Rothsport 3 liter motors give over 240HP on the chassis dyno in October.

As for it being a great motor, I am not sure as I will be building it! Also, it will not have the ITB setup. I will be using the common throttle body. It should have similar power, but much less throttle response. ITB's - Perhaps in the near future.
I will be getting adapters for the intake to fit. Hopefully managed by DTA S60 ECU. |

James,
The single butterfly with a good tune on the EFI will be very fun to drive. IMHO ITBs are over rated, if the motor is tuned properly, ignition, accelerator "pump settings" etc it should be fine. On track I seldome let the motor see load below 4000 RPM and it responds just fine to throttle changes. That manifold flows very well and works better on a small motor (3.0 ltr) than it does on a big motor. Just my two cents worth.

They are "adapters" for the intake to be mounted on the 3.0L engine. They cost around $450 for a set.
Rothsport sells them. PFM, what ECU are you using? Are you using stock TPS and ICV? |

My setup is not stock but uses the Porsche plenum as a base. Aftermarket TB, TPS and ECU controls the ICV based on Dyno pulls. My comment is more general if a good plenum setup is tuned well it drives well.
