cylinder heads in midwest

I just got my set of heads back from yet another reconditioning. During assembly, I discovered that the intake boss of one of the heads is cracked where the valve guide is pressed in.

Is there anyplace that will sell me a refurbished head complete, or do I need to scour around for a used unit and then ship it out to get rebuilt? The short track season is about to start, and I'd love to avoid yet more delays in getting the car running.

Also, just in case head refurbishment #3 lasts as long as #1 and #2, can anyone recommend a shop, ideally not too distant from Michigan, that reliably refurbishes 911 cylinder heads?

And last, can the cracked head be welded & have a new guide pressed in, or is it toast?

Give Waldemar Werner a call at Werner Machine here in Chicago. He has been recommended by others in the local PCA (though I have not had any work done by him). His machine shop specializes only in rebuilding Porsche heads. If he can not help you, he may be able to put you in contact with someone local who can work with you on your scheduling issue.

The phone number for Werner Machine is 708-326-4700.

Shop's address is 9930 W. 190 Street, Suite D, Mokena, Il. 60448.

I used one of the guys on the board here, username CGARR. Craig is located around Grand Rapids. He did a great job at a reasonable price with good turn around time. I had a set rebuilt and twin plugged.

Wally works with Charles Navarro at LN Engineering a lot. That should give people some comfort that Werner does good work.
