Viton valve seals

Hi, is this the best valve seal you can put in an '87 911 turbo motor? There's a lot of them to choose from.

This is from the pelican catalog and it says it's a viton valve seal for a 3.3 liter 1987 911 turbo among other motors

If it's not the best to use which one is and where do you get them?

thanks.

I'm not sure but I have used those on my non-turbo Carrera motor and I was not impressed with the quality. They were a pain to tap on to the valve guide as well. I went with Victor Reinz viton this time around and found the molded part quality much better and the install easier.

I have heard that guys will run teflon seals in turbo motors and even add a slight notch or groove to the seals on the exhaust side to allow some extra oil on to the valve.

We run the Teflon seals to promote better lubrication. The Viton seals a little too well in my opinion to allow the valve guide/ stem to survive the heat demands of the turbo engine.
There seems to be a toss up as to sealing vs wear. A puff of smoke vs longer valve stem life.
In racing Turbo engines we often exclude the seal altogether.

Hi Henry

If viton would you cut a v-notch in them?
For turbo?
How about NA?

The seals in your engine kits are they teflon or the viton?

We use Teflon seals on all turbos (that we use seals on) and early engines.
On late model (for us that's 3.0 -3.6) we use Viton without modifying them.

The Wrightwood Racing gaskets set we sell are custom made to order and can have either type of valve stem seal.
