First Start
Before I started the engine for the first time after the Engine Conversion I have performed all points on the checklist according to Wayne's book.
After that i start it... Porsche 930 3.4 First Start after Rebuilding - YouTube and let it run for 20 minutes Idle between 1800 and 2000 U/min. First Oil Change (by Wayne's instructions) he describes in the book that some think that this is exaggerated....i think not. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410007919.jpg |

précision turbo 67/66 ar 0.82
Looks amazing;)
How work the précision turbo? My ist a K27 with a K29 compressor. |
1. Drive on Street
After the 1. oil change (with filter) i drive the first miles on the street.....
After 20 miles test drive I have blue smoke:-(. (Just blue smoke when the car at standing gas) I expanded the turbocharger to find the error (everything was oily cold and hot side). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410418520.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410418534.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410418553.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410418566.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410418576.jpg |
Find the Error
With the helpful support of brian (Rarly8) i check all possible source.
- oil line check ball is in place at the sending unit - measure the flow of the oil to the turbo and the scavange flow back to the pump First i check the check ball: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410419883.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410419899.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410419910.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410419946.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410419954.jpg all right! Second measure the flow: (the difference of cold and warm oil is huge) The problem ist just with warm oil (more flow) Flow-Test #1 cold Porsche 930 Scavange Pump cold start - YouTube Flow-Test #2 warm Porsche 930 Scavange Pump hot start - YouTube |
Measurements
The amount of 2.5 L/min Oil going through the K27/29! (measured at the outlet) The pump can`t pump that away to much oil.
I have the old line fitted with the old (original) banjo bolt ( internal diameter of 6mm), the banjo bolt from Chris TurboKraft has a internal diameter of 8.5mm (for the Spring) and a 9mm Check Ball both measurements were the same. Then i have changed the turbocharger from K27/29 to my 28 Jears old 3LDZ and the Problem was solved. With the K27/29 i measured 2.5 L and with the 3LDZ 0.75 L/min. (warm) My Friend has measured also with his K27/7200 0.8 L/min. |
I had to put a restrictor of 1.5mm on the turbo oil feed line to stop my Holset from overfilling the scavenge side.

With the 3LDZ was all right! |
I have send the Turbo back to Brian for check it
I have found a picture of my old K27/7200 (sold a few years ago) see at the oil outlet no hole The K27/29 have a rectangular hole that looks not original, maybe thats the Problem. K27/7200: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410455234.jpg K27/29: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1410455273.jpg I talk with a turbo Guy from here. There are 124 versions of the Bearing housing with 4 different slide bearing for the K27 Turbo. Then came the Turbo back from the repair: The bearing housing was replaced as the original had been modified for use in a racing application requiring more flow than the standard 930 system. Brian has reimburse my shipping cost as well The Support and Help from Brian is absolut amazing!!! |
Second Installing of the K27/29
I drive with the 3LDZ about 400 miles (run in the engine).
Then i change the oil and filter again (from 15W-40 to 10W-60). That was the right time to install the K27/29 again (after the repair). I have the turbo and engine over 500 miles (with max 0.4 bar) run in. The car runs at 0.4 bar very good :) The Sound from Brian`s Headers.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/clap.gif |

With regard to(Compared with) my former(old) K27 / 29 which loaded(charged) from 4000 tr / mn, precision turbo loads(charges) much more early in approximately 2400 tr / mn, this is certainly due to the ceramic rotations. The car seems much more coupleuse to low diet(regime). My exit(release) admission turbo towards the heat exchanger(interchange) Ruf " modified by myself(by my care) " is in 3 " throughout. If that can help you for your turbo which has some oil in the body of admission, I had the same problem with mine, I had to forget to remove a cork which I had put to protect the engine when I had him(it) to defuse(unsettle) for the first time. The oil was blocked(surrounded) to go to the pump to oil of the camshaft. Maybe you have also forget something, needs to verify everything.;) Good luck! |

Again Blue Smoke
3 weeks ago I have set the boost pressure to 1 bar for 50 Miles all fine / Turbo works good!
After that I've noticed the boost pressure builds on stutterly......an then blue smoke...oil.oil...oil. First i cleaning all and change again the turbo to my old 3LDZ = test drive = no blue smoke I have send the Turbo back to Brian for a second one.... we will see whats happen...now I'm waiting for a response http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411312554.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411312571.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411312582.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411312597.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411312618.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411312631.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1411312651.jpg |
Hello 930/66 ! Well, at least you know where from comes the problem, even if it is irritating to have to clean everything as long as there is no break-in(breakage) OK, needs to put in perspective and to be patient. :)

New Turbo
Brian has given me an answer:
The failure #2 was due to the compressor nut coming loose. A new turbo wil build and come to me for installing.:) |
Hello Thomas,
Tant mieux, maintenant tu sais pourquoi tu as eu ce problème, la joie est de retour ! :) |
You lucky b... ;) Finally you will succeed! Thumbs up for Brian as well.

2.New Turbo
Some Weeks ago ich have received a brand new Turbo from Brian.
Thanks again for your support!!!;) after 1300 miles i recheck the valve clearance, all good. I let you now when i make my first test drive with the new turbo |
It goes on
So the second new turbo is in the Car, he is different to the first one....

Rarly8 Headers Change Silikon hoses to Aluflex
The Silikon hoses with the heat insulation tape was not mine.
I have made an aluminum adapter for the Aluflex. but first comes the 3ldz out:) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421508581.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1421508594.jpg |

New Aluflex Tubes
I like the Aluflex vs Silikon Tubes (with heat Tape)

Modification Air Filter Box
I still had problems with the fitting between the TK intercooler and the Air Filter Box.
Again i cut some Piece out and fix it together. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422129712.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422129722.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422129732.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422129745.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422129760.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422129770.jpg |
First Drive with the New K27/29
The First Drive with the "new K27/29" was good:D, no Problems.
The difference of the different exhaust turbine is very noticeable. I have the Data from Zeitronics as the compressor nut coming loose (3.Gear) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422301079.jpg |
Current AFR Results
My current AFR results looks not to bad.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422301596.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1422301621.jpg I must do test runs at maximum speed and full boost to see this afr situation. First i recheck all pressure from the CIS and make a flow testing from the injektors. |
Do you have a design or a build sheet for your engine/tranny rest? I'd love to make something similar for when I need to drop the tranny and motor.

AFR of 14.1 - 14.2? Too lean. That is with no boost and low rpm but no room for error there.

I'm sorry I do not have a plan of the design or a build sheet. My Friend has it continuously constructed by hes engine build. The base is a motorcycle hydraulic ramp. Thomas |

In the second and third diagram you must take the values from the vertikal line.. for example: Idle 4531 / Boost 099 Bar / AFR 12.4 |
Got it, looks good. So over about how much time does the 3rd graph cover? You've convinced me to get a Zeitronix for my build. It's cheap compared to dyno time for tuning.

black pipes

I agree... the black pipe work looks ace :-) |

Yes i think the Zeitronics is a god solution (i have the little Blackbox) it helps, but a dyno is a must for me in the final. |

Having a similar problem with my k27HFS. I will look into the same methods of testing as well. I do not have a turbo to swap out though. Thank you for such a detailed build. Nice work.
