Vol 1-2 exerpt needed
Ive seen a number of descriptions but would like to see the original page from vol 1-2 , 65-71 that gives the factory instructions for torquing the rod bolts. Can anyone post for educational purposes?

Thanks! That gets me measured, oiled and rod bolts torqued to 36.2 ft/lb. I'd also like to see the bit about 90° -+ 2°? The only place I've seen it in print is page 200 in Wayne's book, at the very top of the torque specifications.
I need to get my hands on Vol 1-2 for some light reading.

The 15 ft#/ 90 degrees is for the turbo and the Carrera, 3.2 and carries into the C2.

I have now from above (thanks, Andy), the specification to torque the rod bolts to 36.2 ft/lb from the workshop manual 65-71. Then, my Vol 3 doesn't seem to have rod nut torque instructions or values. So, the factory spec, 36.2 ft/lb extends through the years covered by Vol 3, I assume. And, I have instructions in Wayne's book with different parameters and what appears to be no differentiation between engines. The Bentley manuals only go back to 1978...
Then, I look in the parts catalog and see my 72-73 MY rod bolts (914-103-171-00-M260) are also use on 911/911S / Carrera (1974-1977) and 911SC / Turbo (1978-1983) (SC) which places them firmly in the realm of the turbo and Carrera. So, I have several methods to choose from: Bentley and Wayne say the 20nm/90° method with Wayne suggesting threadlocker. Bruce A's book says a range 37-40.5 ft.lbs. with moly lube and motor oil. The factory spec of 36.2 ft/lb on oiled threads in workshop manual Vol. 1-2. Wayne cites a discussion here about this in post #12 while researching his book that may discuss the pros and cons of each method. I haven't been able to find it. I don't want to reinvent the wheel here. I've got a lot riding on not screwing up my build. I don't want to start another rod bolt stretch vs torque discussion. I don't think there's a stretch specification for the OEM bolts. I just want to arrive at the best procedure for tightening these dang nuts. If I don't come to some logical conclusion, my OCD will force me to assume every bump in the road is a rod coming loose from the crank.

my 74 spec book which is the same crank and rods shows 5 to 5.5 mkp which 5 converts to 36.7 ft#
3.2 to 3.6 uses thinner rodbolts Bruce |
