How old? Lawn mower eats anything I drain that still burns.

Love that comment ,IMO there is too much BS about old fuel, recommissioned a car recently with really old gas ...smelt funny and was a wierd colour when doing oil and fuel filter change, fired up straight away (CIS injection) no probs.
What can cause issues is old fuel in the motor as it gums up stuff if sitting for long periods,if not happy top up with fresh stuff and a bottle of octane booster all will be good.
Having said that any moisture is the enemy with a part full tank over time....now that can cause big problems to the fuel distributor and injector pintels .

I'll agree there was too much BS before "we" started adding ethanol. Now, with the blended gas/ethanol, the fuel becomes extremely hygroscopic and in addition to gum from evaporation during storage, you have the propensity for corrosion especially on brass, aluminum and copper. As a side note, ethanol is a strong solvent and will attack hoses and seals not originally engineered for use with blended gas. I think, these days, you are better served removing the fuel or bolstering it with fresh fuel rather than just firing it up with crossed fingers.

Ok. Thanks. I don't know how much is in the tank. Thanks for the info. I'm leaning towards top off and dry gas.

I just recently removed the sender to drain fuel directly from the bottom of the tank. What I saw was reassuring. Tank has no corrosion. 10 month old fuel looked like new. Took 4 gallons out. No water that I can tell. I had added Stabil and ~8 gallons to top it off about 6 months ago.

Should know soon if it is a problem.

Have used old fuel to persuade a reluctant BBQ to cook me my food. That was a giggle, my daughter laughed her head off.
