Home alone with a 3.0

Well, I took it apart last week to see what I bought with broken studs. Heads are in the shop, build parts are several days away. I spent Thursday last week power washing parts after some time with safety Kleen. Everything came up nice and shiny.
Saturday on a Memorial Day weekend, wife is working, flag flies everyday here, garage is comfortable.
Do I have enough gaskets to build a bottom end in the drawers? Just enough.

On the engine stands from cleaning

Mains in choice condition

Sealants applied

Safety Kleen to get the grease off or degreased then power washed.
Samsclub degreaser sprayed on, especially the places that builds up
Re power washed. Then re spray the degreaser and re power wash
Chang e the wet clothes

Now is the perfect time to re-epoxy the oil passage end plugs and the window in the vertical thermostat passage. Don't forget !

I know what you're mentioning, JB weld is on the shelf just for that reason.

Bruce rebuilt my 3.2 motor and I can't wait to be able to get it in the car and fire that baby up. Sent me build progress photos as the build progressed. Terrific guy to work with. Based upon his significant experience, I am betting it will fire right up.

Home Alone............

Bruce,

The wife was away the whole day last week and was looking at her sewing stuff for something to use for as an organizer. Found a perfect plastic container for our work.

It made a lot of difference when you are organized and setup correctly. I used to have them in ziplock plastic bags with labels but when I saw yours (baking pan), that gave me an incentive to get more organized.

To raleigh

Shop called last evening to tell me the heads are finished, 12 new guides and a valve job. I ran in this morning to pick the heads up.

Put together what I got so far. The parts for the builds will be here for Friday, wife is out of town so I'll have garage time but the way North Carolina is I might have to set up the a/c to get any work done in comfort.

Heads and cam carriers. I can't go further as the rocker shaft seals are due Friday in the care package.

I really do wish you were my neighbor. I have to start assembling my 2.4 and it's very daunting. Looking at your pics helps me screw up the courage...a little.

Don't feel bad I'm a newbie and at this stage myself,it would be nice to have someone with experience looking over your shoulder telling you everything looks good.

Stock is metal to metal, steel into aluminum.
There is light torque spec of approx 14#ft, that's good new but previously torqued, tight is good.
The seals help with the movement of the shaft and sealing the potential leaks and 14 #ft is asking for leaks and side movement of the rocker shafts.

Things to do while waiting for UPS

Took the injection apart, power washed the plastic and aluminum and cleaned and lubed the air flow sensor.

Put the P/Cs together waiting on the base gaskets.
Very little blow by from the rings

Hi Bruce,

Engine looks great. I have a few questions if you do not mind answering them.

I just took apart my brothers 3.0 after finding some cracked head studs.
I see that you replaced your studs too but looks to be two different styles/type upper vs lower?
I was planning on replacing them with a full set of steel studs that Pelican sells.
Is there a reason not to do them all the same?
We had some history on the engine when purchased but after finding the stud issues we went into the lower end to inspect that as well.
Which bearing brand would you recommend Glyco or ?
I'm also looking for a good machine shop on the East coast to do the heads. Who do you use for the machine work?

BTW we met a very long time ago at a Porsche swap meet in White Plains , NY.

Thanks,

Luke

I'll do a PM for some of the questions
White Plains, that was the early to mid 80s
I do Glyco because that is the whole game but I do GT3 rod bearings for quality.
