HELP! What kind of piston is this? Need rings.

Can ANYONE tell me what brand of piston this may be? These came out of my 930 when I did an engine rebuild last year. The motor was rebuilt by the previous owner roughly 15 years ago. I ended up using 98mm JE pistons with matched jugs because I could not find rings for these anywhere. There is no writing or markings anywhere on them and the rings are an odd size. 1.5, 1.0, and 3mm. The diameter is 98mm. Thanks in advance!

Do they usually not have any markings? Do you know why I can not find rings in these sizes? All of the Mahle's I've seen look like they're 1.5-1.5-3.0. Why can't I find anything with 1.5-1.0-3.0 like these? Could it be because these are roughly 15 years old? Thanks

Mahle will not have rings for something that old any longer. Total Seal can make rings for you.

I will say that is an odd combination and 15 years ago a 1mm ring was not very common especialy in the 2nd ring grove and the accumulator grove on the top usually is between the top and 2nd. I knowMahle will custom build anyting to your spec maybe they just were experimenting or as I have seen lately they screwed up. Anyway Total Seal is a good source as was mentioned.

regards

Only thing I can think of is maybe they used 1mm because pistons with thinner rings have less drag resulting in more hp.

You might want to check with Engine Builder Supply (EBS). They sell a lot of Mahle stuff. Good luck!

You can always have a machinist enlarge that groove.

Sending out a piston and jug to Totalseal to have custom rings matched up. I've been emailing Keith Jones and he's been very helpful. Thank you all for your expert opinions and advice.
