Engine Rebuilding Forum moderator.........

304065 (Moderator),

Noticed today that the Engine Rebuilding Forum is only 3 pages and could not find some of the older posts that were 2 or 3 months old. Some of these posts were very interesting to read for people starting into engine rebuilding. Below are the number of pages for other forums as of today:

Auto-X................................................. 2 pages.
Engine Rebuilding..................................3 pages.
Paint & Body Work.................................3 pages.
Cars For Sale........................................9 pages.
Off Topic............................................. 18 pages.
Technical ............................................35 pages.
Classified (For Sale section)...................81 pages.

Wish we could bump up some of the good and informative posts but they are no longer visible. I learned a lot from reading some of these posts and used them for reference readings. Or contacted the OP (original poster) in some cases as needed. Do we really need that many pages for the classified section. Thanks.

Tony

Change your display settings at the bottom of the page.
Default is the last month. Change to beginning and pick show threads.
389 pages show up.
Seems the choice doesn't stick though. Have to do it when you return to the page after leaving.

Dennis,

Thanks for tip. I tried it and was able to go further back.

This is a lot to ask, but some forums categorize archived threads and file them into their own subject section. That way, answers are easier to find. You may also find that frequently asked questions are reduced if topics are grouped and easily accessed. Could also maximize server storage and database code. E.g.

Main heading:
Engine Rebuilding Forum
Engine-related rebuild topics:
Camshaft and Valve Train
Case, Crank, Rods and Bearings
Lubrication
Machining, Inspection
Disassembly/Assembly
Materials, Tools, Coatings, etc.
Misc., etc.

Sherwood,

It would be a dream come true if we could have something close to your suggestions. To collect and file these related topics would be convenient to readers and researchers specially those who are not computer savvy like me and others. But this is not an excuse and we could adapt as time goes by.

This particular section (Engine Rebuilding) of this website is primarily responsible for resurrecting hundreds of cars and engines back to its former glory. The fact that a typical DIYer like myself with no formal training could rebuild 911 engines with help of this forum and members is incredible. And the number of people doing engine rebuild is getting more and more each day.

Thanks you Mr. Wayne Dempsey for your vision and pioneering.

Bookmark the threads you want. I have a library of many, including this one on half shafts that has been invaluable for those of us who have Porsches with every engine, but the one that came with the car!

Hi, Tony:

Something else that may be helpful to you; here's a link to a custom google search engine which crawls through both the tech forum and engine rebuilding forum. This has been a great tool for me.

Custom forum search...
