Build, or not to build...
Hello mates
Got a question for you guys and gals, I got this engine case with cylinders, pistons and some more parts.. Serial number is: 61118XX and I think it is from a 2.0 engine (1971 2.0T?) Is it a Magnesium or aluminium case? Milliondollar question, do you think it is worth rescuing? If not, what should I try to get for it? Cheers Mike |

Interesting mix of parts.
The case would be a 71 T (I am fairly sure). That would be a mag case 2,2 l. Those pistons and cylinders look to be S or E with the piston's large domes. Ts also had iron cylinders. If you had the rest of the parts, crank, rods, cams, cam housings, heads etc, it might make sense to do a rebuild. Even then you would only have a long block. IMO, it would cost way more to build it up than it would be worth.

I agree as to costs verses outcome. In my case (pun intended)...... er,.... In my case, I found a 1000 dollar 82 3.0 core that was only missing the intake system / running with burnt valve guides when removed from the doner car. After a full top to bottom rebuild that put one of Wayne's kids thru Princeton I am all built under 6K with Webers, fresh headwork, webcam work, recurved dizzy for same, and assorted nuts and bolts / and that was starting with a 1000 buck core in good shape save the valve guides. I decided to do a full rebuild of all bearings and internal parts so one can spend anything north of this sum very easily. Establish a generous Max budget and get ready to exceed that underestimate on several fronts.... Cheers

I'd advertise it on Early S Registry to see if someone might be looking for that serial number (or range).
