Well boys, the problem was found. The "mechanic" never tightened down the cam sprocket on the right bank, so the nut backed off, the pin popped out and all the valves on that side crashed.
We are leaning toward not splitting the cases. The car has a total of 90k on it and this is a second engine (Porsche warranteed the original). All the bores look clean with a a good cross hatch pattern and no visible pitting. i will be borrowing bore gauges this week to check for ovaling. I will be in need of 6 rockers, 3 intake and 3 exhaust valves. What do you think the chances are that the valve guides will be ok after crashing the valves? Oh and good to meet some of you yesterday. Brendon

Also, just an afterthought. Since this is a *engine, what are the chances it's not a magnesium case?
The casting numbers are 901.101.102.7R

Nope, not at all!! I borrowed the tool to remover the cam sprocket nut on the Left bank today from Dick and Precision.... it was maybe 20 lb/ft, and that is being very generous.....

There is a spacer missing between the idler and the tensioner to fill the gap.
