Int Shaft 1 and Eng Case 0
Due to crank end play failure on my 2.4 I have sourced a measured good crankshaft from a 73 2.4. My original case has no excessive wear and measures good. However, I noticed my case is stamped 0 and the crank/int shaft I sourced are a 1.
What exactly does this mean and what will need to be done to adequately put these together?

The “size” markings on the case and IMS gear relate to the centerline distance between the crank bores and the IMS bores in the case. This distance impacts the backlash between the crank gear and the IMS gear. The factory classed these into zero and 1 sizes to help ensure that this backlash would be within spec. Using a zero IMS gear in a zero case will help ensure backlash is within spec. Similarly using a 1 IMS gear in a 1case does the same. If you mix them, you will need to do a careful backlash check.

There was a go, no go listing, maybe in the pocket manual,
They can be mixed one way but not the other. Bruce |
