I have a rough looking 7R Mag case that id like opinions as to using it for my rebuild. All journals measured in 3 locations, averaged and within spec. My concern is the rough finish and some deep pitting inside the bottom of the case by the oil sump plate. I thought I may be able to fill these with JB or Weicon titanium repair stick.

Since I build Mezger cases you will probably think I have a vested interest in this discussion, but I want to tell you honestly that in my development period for these cases, me and my engineers and toolmakers have looked at dozens upon dozens of cases.
I have NEVER seen a case that is that bad. I personally would not build a motor out of that case. Mag 7R cases are somewhat easy to find; I would find a better example. |

The big question is. Would someone abandon a good 7R case? Must be a reason for it to have been discarded. Any history on this case?

I've seen a few myself and this one would be placed in the metal recycling barrel.

Hurricane damage from way back? Car drove into the ocean? Case set out in a sea side back yard. Or is salt water not that much a corrosive agent for this mag alloy?

Sandblast it, then make a coffee table out of it....
There are supposedly aircraft welders that weld magnesium. There was a thread on here a while ago about someone in Wisconsin welding the fan units... |

Thanks for all the feedback. History - water and remaining oil sat in the bottom end for what appears to be a very long time. I sourced it for the crank which measured absolutely perfect; hatch marks could still easily be seen on the cylinder walls that hadnt corroded. My guess is the car was wrecked early in life and abandoned.
