If I ever had some free time at work, I could contribute to the "cause".

Is there anything you need modeled?

rwest 11-24-2017 04:28 PM

Wow, amazing detail, great work.

Optimusglen 12-02-2017 06:22 AM

This is certainly the most challenging part so far, took a dive into the first case half.

Long long way to go, but the foundation is there.

That's a great start!

Optimusglen 12-04-2017 08:35 AM

More on the carbs, been really cool to get up close and personal with all of the stuff that you usually just clean and assemble.

I don't have modeled screw threads on most of the stuff that uses threads, mostly because it takes so much more time to create/export/render. Once the model is done I'll be going back and added the threads as a bump map on the surfaces that need it. For now you get smooth cylinders going into smooth cylinders.

Great stuff, enjoying this. Will this model be able to simulate combustion and heat sources?

Optimusglen 12-08-2017 08:52 AM

It is a parametric 3D model, so parts could be imported into other software systems to simulate that stuff. I have no access to such a software though. And since these aren't 100% accurate down to the 10th or 100th of a millimeter I don't think running these models in such a software setup would gain anyone any usable knowledge.

Making a little progress on the first case half. Guessing maybe a little under halfway there. then I get to do it all over again with the other half...

I wished I was that good in CAD! I'd love to see the basic foundation on how you started

Optimusglen 12-10-2017 07:57 AM

More work on the carbs, floats are in as well as the lower portion of the airbox. Still some details to add to the airbox

From above as clay.

Added more airbox details, I'll be revisiting the first case half and adding details in a few days.

Masterful work. Simply amazing.

Optimusglen 12-11-2017 06:15 PM

Thanks guys! Had a bit more time this evening and started on some other bits.

WOW, so awesome, I love the clay!!!!

Optimusglen 12-16-2017 06:06 AM

In my classic for of stirring multiple pots at once, here's a start on the engine air shroud. No rendered image this time, the baby is about to get up so I need to go make a bottle...

I should note, the transmission is just a placeholder for now. I found this model online and popped it in, supposedly a 930 trans? At any rate, I'll be doing my own at some point, but want to finish the engine first.

Wow, this is amazing, the attention to detail is staggering! I could definitely see 3D printing these and leaving them around the house as art too.

Optimusglen 12-18-2017 10:00 AM

Thank you! Here's the most recent. Little bits of work on it at a time, it takes patience but eventually it'll be complete.

I needed a new desktop background...

Amazing work. I encourage you to make some sort of art with the model once completed (Poster, 3D print..).
