Thanks for posting your work. You could link animations together to make an engine "come alive" from clay to metal and then self-assemble - and put it on youtube - I dunno how their payment system works tho. |
Very, very neat. This can be helpful in explaining to somehow how these flat-sixes are assembled versus most other engines.

Time again for an update. This has certainly been a "back-burner" project that gets attention every once in a while.
A disclaimer for anyone just tuning in. I am CAD modeling everything from scratch, then in a different software I apply and adjust materials, lighting, camera adjustments etc., and then render the images. The 3D model is based on my real 911/07 build which is nearly entirely a stock 2.2T build. Some components are new or aftermarket, so my model reflects that. When I model these parts I use a micrometer and get as close as possible to the real part, but certain geometries require me to "eye-ball" it. My models are not optimized for 3D printing. I do not currently offer my model for sale on my website, but message me if you're interested. I may have said this earlier in this thread, but what an amazing 3D modeling and rendering exercise. I'm an architect and work all day long on modeling 3D buildings on my computer. To say your work takes attention to detail to another level seems embarrassingly insufficient.

A development that anyone that subscribes to 000 magazine will recognize. I've been the artist for their "Build" and then their "Spec v. Spec" sections since issue 7. In the most recent issue, 17, I also had the opportunity to put my engine model to use. Er, part of it anyway.
The article revolves around the fasteners, and I did some illustrations using my engine model of all of the fasteners in place, almost floating in thin air. With the other components lightly outlined in the background. Really cool set and I hope you guys have the opportunity to check it out. Now, a keen eye and pro-builder will likely notice some inaccuracies. I did have to go in and detail out several parts, and this was, relatively speaking, a last-minute addition.
