This is great! I’m a sucker for a good 3D model!

Hi --any chance on purchasing high quality prints on some of your pictures? Thanks Chris

+1 I’d buy a few as well.

I have to say the heat effect on the diffuser is brilliant!

Ok, you've now officially became my hero.
That oil cooler looks crazy time consuming to reproduce. Dang.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pray.gif |
Thanks gents! I'm debating what I want to do about the transmission. I found the model for this one online and originally used it as a placeholder. It's not really a model I can revise, as it is one imported "blob" without editable features. But it's also not quite up to the standards that everything else is at.... unfortunately for me to get a trans model to that point it would take starting from scratch.
Certainly something I *could* do, but the drive to do it isn't the same as when I was creating the engine. That's one of the reasons I have been holding off on creating too many art prints. It's just weird to see the engine so well done and the trans just kinda blah. Quote:
As always, thank you for the support! The real build is stalled out while I save funds to get the casework done. |
Man, I WISH my freshly rebuild motor, looked as neat as this rendering!

-processor is the 2nd gen Ryzen 7 2700 (8 core) -32gb of RAM, though 16 would have probably been fine -GIGABYTE Radeon RX 550 2gb graphics card -boots Windows 10 from a Samsung SSD, storage is a 1T WD mechanical hard drive (for reference, the old setup was running an Intel Core i7-4810, 16G of RAM, not even sure what GPU) Keyshot is very processor dependent, so the more cores the better. Other software may rely more on a graphics card. And any system benefits from a lot of RAM. My advice is to research what your software likes and build to that. Building your own PC is not only fun and extremely rewarding, but it's also far cheaper than buying a spec'd out box from a retailer. Also, it's really very easy. Here's the new rig http://c1.staticflickr.com/1/941/287...8d943542_b.jpg http://c1.staticflickr.com/1/855/287...14b55fc7_b.jpg I've been meaning to get back to this model and render out some posters, but I've been swamped. |
Thanks for the feedback. If folks only knew how much effort this is..... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pray.gif

Apologies for not being engine related, but wanted to show another little project I'm working on.

I figured it was about time I get a new transmission modeled. As stated previously, the one shown before was just a place holder. It was a model I found online that was fairly accurate. This new one was scratch built, but there aren't any interior details. This is a 901 gearbox that would have been in 911's up to early 1969.

Some aspects might be very close, others are literally just "eye-balled". Good for making pretty pictures but that's about it. |
Glen, the sticker on the coil BRACKET did not appear until the SC. The sticker on the COIL is OK.
I am really enjoying this thread, thanks for sharing this amazing work with us. |
Hey all, it's been awhile! One of my recent projects tasked me with hashing out the engine model a bit more to include the engine tins and mounts. You'll notice that the mount assembly isn't there yet, and I'm still missing some case hardware, but I thought you guys might enjoy these shots nonetheless.
The material for the tins was supposed to be the thin composite material, but the weave isn't showing up as well as I would like, so it'll need some more work. http://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7848/33...b58646ac_b.jpg http://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4903/46...859a45eb_b.jpg http://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7833/46...7747ba08_b.jpg http://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7810/39...8405fa44_b.jpg I try to keep this thread solely about the engine model, so to see all of my other work check out my Instagram account @autoillustrated |
Holy crap!!! Not sure how I missed this, but outstanding work!!
Somehow I ended up in a roundabout way stumbling across your Society6 account after seeing the rendering work you did for 000 Magazine. Wonderful stuff, you have a great eye! For anyone else reading this thread, please go and check this out you won't regret it! https://society6.com/autoillustrated |
Thank you! I've been meaning to update the society6 page with some of my newer stuff, hopefully in the coming week or two.

Glad to see an update from you, Optimusglen! I never get tired of seeing your work.

Another update for you all. It's been SO LONG.
I finally wrapped up the exterior of the case halves facing the flywheel. For the longest time one was done and the other was just a flat surface. Also shown here some misc hardware and the rear main seal. http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/4...5b075368_b.jpg did some quick and dirty piston rings http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/4...d4aa00a6_b.jpg oil pump http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/4...b8154609_b.jpg http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/4...11e65013_b.jpg Here's the full thing as it sits. http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/4...22b5e5d4_b.jpg http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/4...7ef96567_b.jpg http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/4...073e9365_b.jpg Also been working up a 911T for it to go in. Digitally of course. http://live.staticflickr.com/65535/4...f4af8879_b.jpg |
This thread just blows my mind. Every time I look at it I am just amazed. Thanks so much for sharing your skills with us.
