Tippy 12.02 at 129mph is a low 11 sec car, or high 10 sec car just fyi.
|
Tippy, Pauls motor specs, Xtreme did the 3.2 heads, 10.5:1 compression mod S 120/104 web cams 1 3/4" Scargo style headers, 930 oil pump, 930 crank 98mm custom piston and cylinders, 50 mm carbs. twin plug. I have dyno sheet somewhere but made 339 hp on dyno before the scargo headers It had some bursch headers when it made 339HP, maybe a little more now with Scargo headers Car is all steel but light weight bumpers, has power windows but stripped interior. my guess on weight is 2200 pounds.

I'm confident over 130 now; went much larger turbo and larger IC/TB. |
or a turbo 6 :) just keep practicing your launch( your 60 foot and 330 are what's holding you back.)

I can hit 20 lbs of boost sitting still with MegaSquirt's launch control. :D |
Back to try and help Nippy, the best company I know on AEM is AMS. I don't think it is in the programing but I still hope to know soon and hope he gets the help he needs..
|
Nippy any updates on current findings?

I think he might have gotten some bad news and is now looking to trade for a GT4. The car looks pretty amazing! Busy living the dream it seems... |

no bad news, up to 200HP with a new tuner/tune/dyno and they say there's allot of room to go. So getting to the bottom of it. I'm waiting on news from my shop as we speak. Like I said, I wouldn't even have noticed anything, nor would my buddies who have rode/driven in the car. Its the dyno that says low power. Seat of the pants says its all there. Will get to the bottom of it that's for sure. Will keep you informed.

Power is in the timing maps, not in the VE maps - as they say. If you are single plug heads, you should be running ~30 degrees advance from about 5000 rpm and up. There are a few of us running the infinity with good results and a few of us shared our ignition maps here if you want to have a look:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/975423-official-efi-ignition-map-sharing-thread.html I'm probably running some of the most advanced part throttle timing on a 3.0 or 3.2 but i tuned it lean for better MPGs. You have to advance it a lot to make it run well with 14.7 and leaner afr's and not buck and lean-pop a bunch. Why don't you share your map here so we can take a look? |
I just remembered something that more than just I have noticed when using the AEM crank sensor setup. On my motor, the readings would go inaccurate right around 4500 RPM. We had a pretty big dip on the dyno that started right at 4500 or so and we spend a few hours hunting it down.
We decided to lock the timing at 25 degrees advance in the Infinity and then slowly rev the engine up to the 4500 rpm range while watching the crank pulley with a timing light connected. What we found was that right at 4500 the timing light would start moving all around. It went retarded and not advanced but it would jump around 10-20 degrees. Remember, this was with the ECU locking the timing down to 25 degrees! So what was happening was the ignition timing was retarding itself 10-20 degrees right there in the meat of the powerband and causing a big drop off in power. We got it mostly resolved by changing some of the noise settings in the AEM software but it still retards itself due to some weird electronic noise or perhaps a harmonic issue or something a few degrees. I have a sneaking suspicion that it might have to do with the axial shaft play in the distributor shaft or maybe the lash from the gear drive. ANyways, thought it might be worth a mention. |
I just saw a photo of the car WOW it is beautiful........... William Knight

Bad news , so pissed. Did the borescope after low numbers on a few cylinders in compression test. I cant get the pictures to load but it appears the pistons are shot. There is some goldish color metals and pocking on the pyston heads. They look beat up.
Im on vacation in Cali and got the bad news on my birthday. 3rd mechanic that has said the motor needs to come apart. Salvage time for parts then rebuild. Engine has less than 10k on it!!!!! Did o say im pissed! Rothsport is on the top of the list. Im hearing AEM is not great for flat 6 engines. So now what? Motech and 30k more in build and parts????? Uggggg. Cant sell at this point. Wouldnt want to anyway. How big and powerful can a euro 3.0 liter be punched out to the max and still be reliable? Twin plug or no? Keep 50mm pmo itbs or no? Keep AEM infinity ecu or no? If im gonna spend the money, i want at least 250hp at the wheels and up. |

Yeah AEM is good stuff. Whoever told you that either sells a competitive product or doesn’t know how to tune. I like the Megasquirt, especially since it has an ITB Blend algorithm that AEM doesn’t, but in general AEM is killer stuff.

First, I'm very sorry to hear that. What they found is the result of your problem, not the cause you need to find that. I asked earlier if the fuel system has been checked, since it sounded like it was set up for carbs. I still think you have either, fuel starvation or a triggering issue due to electronic noise throwing you timing off. The first would be dead simple to see if you had the afr from a wideband lambda. I sincerely hope that when your guys had it on the dyno they used it and logged it. EFI systems are not magical things, if you want the absolute last tenths of horse power then Motec and Bosch motorsport makes the best stuff. Otherwise it really doesen't matter much, its more up to the tuner. |
