Help with proposed engine spec

Hi Everyone

I am just about to embark on my first engine build and would welcome any advice on my intention, spec, tips etc. I have the Wayne Dempsey book and most of the tools required so I feel ready to give it a go. I would like to know if the proposed spec is going to work and if I should be doing any other mods, (oil bypass or upgraded tensioners)I am in the UK, and the car will be used for fast road work & trackdays

Spec

3.0 cases with 3.0 crank and conrods
3.0 heads but I have access to 2.4, 2.2 & 3.2 heads
2.7 S cams
Uprated oil pump
2.7 Mahle pistons & cylinders
40mm PMO's

The 2.7 cylinders are too small, you need 3.0 or 3.2 cylinders. 3.0 pistons to fit rods.
2.7 cams require three bearing cam carriers
40mm carbs are close to being too small for anything extra such as 3.2SS
Oil pumps are same as 3.2 Carreras. Upgrade would be to turbo.
The smaller heads won’t work in application. 3.2 would need to include the spacers on intakes.

I have also 3.2 barrels & pistons but was concerned about the 40mm size of the PMO's, will they work but just make less power than 46's this is just a short term solution as vi may EFI it later on.

I also have a 2.4T long block so I could perhaps have this machined to take the 2.7 barrels & pistons. I am not worried about producing mega horsepower, just something useable for now

head/cyl stud spacing changed over the years
Stud spacing
964/993 90mm
3.0-3.2-3.3 86mm
2.0-2.7 83mm

An aluminum block will be more stable in the long term, though many mg 2.7s are out there.

If doing a 2.7 mg I'd want a 7R casting to start w/

The 3.2 barrels will fit the SC case. The pistons won't work with the SC rods, however.

40 mm Webers will work fine on a motor up to 3,0L, unless you are wanting maximum top end power.

Are you trying to piece to together a motor from scratch? That could be an expensive proposition.

3.2 heads on a 3.2SS might be wicked. But those 40mm carbs would be holding you back. Have you thought about selling the carbs? If they are Webers, heck, if they are originals, you might be able to get enough cash to buy a set of PMO46 and really have some fun. I'd stay away from the 2.4 or anything magnesium just because of the cost of machining the mag case back to standard.
