Help - Bosch Twin Plug Distributor Cap & Rotor

My RSR 3.0 twin plug motor has developed a significant intermittent misfire. Suspecting an ignition problem and knowing that my 10 year old Jerry Woods modified SC Bosch distributor still had the original cap and rotor, I checked there first.

The inside of the cap shows what looks to be oxidized copper (green dust). The contacts on both the cap and rotor show significant corrosion. I expect this is the cause of the misfire.

The original Bosh twin plug caps and rotors are very costly. Anyone have experience with the reproductions that are now available and know where to get one?

cap twin plug

Clean the cap and contacts and drill two 4 mm holes in the top to help vent out the green dust which is metallic in origin and will contribute to a crossfire.Fred

Hi Tom, Supertec and myself have re-pop 3.0 RSR caps and rotors for not a lot of $. Be advised, You may have to fuss with the rotor for proper fit. Check with Henry for pricing.

Perhaps unsightly, but you can vent the cap using a hose going to fan shroud like the 964. Venting distributor from fan shroud through a small fuel filter would help with crossfire when using large gaps. The previous sentence sourced either from Grady Clay or from Porsche Fuel and Ignition training class but I can’t recall which.

I do not disbelieve in anything. I start from the premise that everything is true until proved false. Everything is possible.
