Error code P0340 Cam Sensor

A couple of weeks ago my check engine light came on. The next day, I went to the station filled the tank and the light went out. A few days later, the light came on again. After a fill, the light goes out, sometimes I can get it to go out, by opening and closing gas cap. Today, I plugged in an auto x-ray scanner because the light was on again. I got the error code P0340 which is supposed to be the cam sensor. Any ideas on this?

Thanks,

Pat

I dont see a relationship between the two events. Do you leave the key in the On position while you fill the tank? See if leaving the key turned to on with the engine Off for 15-30 seconds will reset the light.

I would reset the CEL and wait for it to come on again, then see what the code is. My E36 had a CPS error code but no CEL when I bought it but I reset it and it hasnt returned. So the CPS error might have been stored a long time ago but it didnt set the CEL. The CEL could be from something else that comes and goes.
