Suggestions with OBD II code

I have a 2000 328ci and recently had a diagnostic done on my car and received the following code.

P1182 - O2 Sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 2) Open Circuit During Coast Down Fuel Cut-off

I'm wondering if this means there is a faulty O2 sensor or if there is a problem with the Idle Solenoid (which I'm assuming that is what it means by Coast Down Fuel Cut-Off).

The car is 8 years old now but it only has 42,000 miles on it so it seems a bit early to be having O2 sensor problems.

With all codes I reset and see if it comes back.

Likely it is the O2 sensor as other problems would effect both banks. You can swap the sensors and see if the problem follows.

Hey Jeron thanks for replying. What makes you think it is an 02 sensor problem relative to the "Open Circuit During Coast Down Fuel Cut-off" read-out?

I've noticed that when I'm in drive and stopped at a stop-light/sign the engine will make a whining sound. Almost like a bad pump. The RPMs don't spike or drop and the sound goes away if I press the accelerator or put the car in neutral. It sounds like the engine is running rich when I am coasting and that's what made me think perhaps the "open-circuit" is in my idle solenoid or my needle-valve isn't activating.

I'm trying to avoid unnecessary parts replacement (paying for it myself as a college student) so if you had any more information I could certainly use it.

I'm not saying for sure its the O2 sensor and I dont suggest you buy one. But for free you can pull both post cat sensors and swap them between banks to see if the problem switches banks. Of course I would reset and see if it reappears first.
