Question Idle problem

I'm experiencing an idling problem with my 92, 525ia/M50 with 78K on the clock. At times when coming to a stop the idle would drop for a few seconds to around 500 rpm and the engine feel as it'll die. I've cleaned the throttle body, but that didn't help.

What would be causing this? Is there any adjustments that'll help? Thanks.

I don't know if it applys to your ride or not but I would find out if there is an idle control valve that may need cleaned or replaced.

Thumbs up

I've same yr and model did the throtle body cleaning, changed the air filter and put stp in tank? But what made the big difference was changing the spark plugs!!! Old ones where filled with oil and sparks was not 100% on all plugs??? Took to a local BMW specialist and now have to replace rings where spark plugs are located...Hope this helps??

You also want to check all vacuum connections, valve cover gasket, as well as the coolant temp sensor. There is also a small vacuum hose under the throttle body for the emissions system that can cause this as well.

Yeah, what Jared said. I have had idle problems when the crankcase isn't totally sealed. It was very simple... the oil cap wasn't on all the way!

I had the same (or worst): engine dies

Dealer repalced the MAF. "So far so good" for 3 weeks.

I'd be suspect here, the MAF's are usually pretty reliable..

It is the sensor which got replaced, not the whole MAF unit. Apology for being unclear.
