Question side view mirror

Does anyone know why my passenger side view mirror does not automatically move down when I put the car in reverse? It works fine if I move it myself, and worked a couple of weeks ago in the automatic mode... But all of a sudden just stopped working. I have a 1989 735IL. Thanks

You might want to remove the mirror glass and clean/lubricate the assembly inside. I'd have luck doing this with my power mirrors.

For the passenger mirror to point down in reverse, the mirror selection switch should be in the drivers position.

To remove the outside mirror glass on an E32: Insert a small flat blade screwdriver into the hole located on the bottom of the mirror and rotate the retention ring until the glass comes free.

It should be. All you have to do is look in the small hole, you'll see how the mirror attaches, although it can be a bit of a pian to get it back on. Just take the mirror off and lubricate the linkage inside. Worked wonders for me.

I had the same problem with my "89 735. Turns out the problem was in the switch on the transmission shifter. Took it out, took it apart, cleaned & lubed the dirty and semi-burnt contacts and put it back in. The mirror then worked again.

P.S: I just got an '88 735iL. The mirror doesn't tilt on this car, but the owner's manual (came with the complete set!) doesn't mention this feature. So, before I try to "fix" it, be nice to know if it's supposed to tilt in reverse.
