Hi Larry, you were right to be suspicious of "old plastic" that’s exactly where my problem was, it had a very small crack at the tip causing this whole thing luckily the part only set me back $40 bucks instead of the $180 I would have paid for the heater core itself.
Now I have the heat working perfectly but now I have run into another little snag, what is happening is when I turn on the car and set both of the controls for the driver and passenger side to cold and turn on the ac I get cold air for a short time out of both the driver and passenger sides and on my temp reading I had them both at about 32 degrees F which was perfect but as I let the engine reach operating temp. it’s a different story all together on the driver side I have temps reaching upwards of 110 degrees F and on the passenger side I still feel the ac working at about 55 degrees F. I would have to suspect it may be a stuck heater control valve but that would be just a guess. As far as the erratic idle problem I had already changed the fuel pressure regulator, so I’m suspecting the Idle Air Control Valve, the vane air flow meter may need adjustment, or something might be up with my vacuum, I think I’ll try to trace down the vacuum first and see if I may have missed any line or something. I did want to ask your opinion on what the best way to deal with rust may be, the car is in perfect shape in terms of not getting in any accident or any body damage but unfortunately who ever had the car last did not store it inside very much I suspect it may have been because she stopped working on them and they did not have the time or money to get her fixed so they just basely let her sit outside for so long, and this might be why it only has 46K on it but the big problem I’m running into is having lot of rust developing on the doors, how hard would it be for me to remove the rust and do you know of any good way to remove it, in the future once I have this rust issue taken care of I do want to have it painted completely black, its presently white would it be more cost effective for me to take off all the paint on it my self and then just have the pro’s paint it for me and is their any good tool to do this with? Thanks Max |

Sorry about the rust . . .
Hi, Max.
Sorry for the delay - lots going on, as usual. I'm not going to be much help on the problems you have left - the weird heat and a/c don't prompt any ideas for me. And I am not a body and paint man at all - rust is something that once started, takes enormous effort to bring under control. I don't have any tools or special procedures to share. You might start a new thread on the topic of rust and see what sort of help you can scare up. Good luck! Larry F.
