e24 abs testing
I have an '86 635csi and recently replaced both rear wheel bearings. Now i have an abs indicator lamp on the cluster. I have replaced both rear abs sensors...still have the MIL. Does anyone know the proper way to test these sensors?? I would much rather test the remaining sensors than buy new one at 100 bucks a pop on
a guess. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks,Steve 1986 bmw 635csi lapis blue 138k |

You need to clean both the sensors and also the trigger wheels on each hub. The sensor is nothing more than a Hall effect sender. If something is disrupting the normal magnetic field around the sensor, it wont work correctly.
Usually, road grime, grease, dirt and other crap gets up in there and causes problems. Clean the front sensors and trigger wheels first. Did you replace the rear sensors before or after you got the light? |

24 abs problems
Thanks for you response... I had replaced the left rear control arm...re-using the sensor at first...also I have replaced the front srtuts and lower control arms, so everything is pretty clean. After replacing the rear trailing arm is when the light came on. The abs light will come on at initial cranking and then go off as it should. After a few revolutions of the wheel...the lamp will come back on, indicating a sensor problem...but as far as dirt or grime corrupting a sensor, I don't think that's an issue. I need to test the remaing sensors, but don't know the values to ohm them out to see if they are good.
Thanks,Steve 1986 bmw 635csi |
