Craig, What's your assessment of the R1250RS?
Have you accumulated sufficient mileage on you RS to make an informed assessment?
I need to know if i should I chuck my RT and find an RS to prove to myself that I'm not quite dead yet?

Hi Paul!
First off, I have to say we have had really crappy weather since I brought it home. Snow, rain, and high winds. However it's supposed to get up into the 80 degree point by Monday, and I've scheduled Friday and Monday off. I'm planning on a long ride around highway 141 to Gateway, etc... But I did ride it here 100 miles and also around the general town... But I'm no expert yet. I have learned a few things that you might look for, or not. If you're looking for new. The bikes are all each shipped configured somewhat differently. It pays to read the build sheet. They are all probably going to come with the Premium Package, which you would probably want anyway, but it adds on $2,900. They'll probably also add on one form or another of the "Option 719" wheels or other billet Packs. That can get expensive, by a couple thousand more. One big thing (maybe) that I learned after the fact is that there is a choice of the traditional bars that most come with, or an option for tubular Handlebars. Those tube bars would give a more upright ride position because mine (without) reminds me a little of the R1100S where you have some weight on the wrists. I noticed this right away between riding my S1000XR over and then returning on the R1250RS. And there's several different seat configurations and sizes too. I'd go to http://www.bmwmotorrad.com and build a couple to see the options. This is probably common news now but there is a BMW cradle you can buy for your cell phone that's taking the place of the NAV VI GPS. That's the direction they're going now. You attach your iPhone or other into it and it connects into the bikes software and a downloadable app. So you can use GPS functions, but also get the readouts from the bike, like fuel, tire pressure etc. So I don't know much yet, except when I put my R1100S right next to it, they are very similar in looks. Hard to believe this is the new version 23 years later.... It was probably the bike most here wanted back in those days when we were all talking about what the R1100S replacement was going to be...

I've been riding a 1250RS since 2020, I don't think you'll be disapointed.

I decided that if I like it after I test ride it, I'm going to get one. I have to go to the further dealer as the closer does not allow test rides like they used to and they both tell me they don't get them in often.

My dealer (Grand Junction) said they might not see another this year. Not sure why, or how many they produce. Maybe they just don't order them. Doesn't seem like a rare bike. They sell a lot of GS bikes though, and also KTM's because it's the desert/mountain area... So that's their bread & butter. They have one S1000rr there too and it might sit all spring. It's just the market here.
I was over there yesterday and my old S1000XR was still there for sale and when I looked at it I knew I'd made the right decision doing the trade-in. XR is a nice bike, but I like the boxer engine.

I felt the same way after an extended test ride on the XR.
Also, I am told the wiring harnesses are made in Ukraine.
