did you get the HARD gizmo?
that would be a good addition for your trip.
I got one and it's pretty neat-o.

That's just the remote display, correct?

good technique Brad, I'll have to remember that.
I think shan is showing just the remote display here, yes.
looks like he's got the V1 down behind the tankbag, left side.
wonder if that will affect the reception...

i know, it's just that i've learned that the sequence is:
HARD system goes off.
hit brakes HARD while simultaneously turning right grip rapidly forward.
glance at gps for speed (oh my!).
look at arrows for location of radar source.

when i do it any other way, i seem to donate money to the local community.

I think the absence of a cage around the V1 automatically makes reception a certain percentage better. I immediately noticed this after mounting my V1 on the RAM mount. I'll take a pic later on to showcase the install.

i'm real curious as to which RAM setup people are using on the S for a detector mount. I've seen a few different options, but i'd love to see some in action with feedback before committing.

Your wish is our command....

Ive got the mirror hole mount, works well with sport screen but won't clear the touring screen. About $65, for another $20 you can get the mastercylinder cap mount.
With the touring screen I use a combo off the fairing support behind the screen...

when that HARD starts flashing, and ESPECIALLY when the V1 is chirping the 'KA' or 'laser' song, you'd better be doing some sssssserious decel and THEN figuring out what's going down and where...better safe than sorry..you can always speed up later, but it's the slowing down before your scoot generates a valid return that'll save ya...

In my experience, on long straight aways (I-5), you've typically got anywhere from 10 to 60 seconds before Mr. CHP is right next to you. That said, on the twisties, it's probably 1 to 10 seconds of lead time!

I guarantee you when mr. V1 starts that laser chirp they're around somewhere, and somewhere close...hidden in the bushes, usually. The only exception to that in my experience (lasers are not prone to 'falsing') is being around a major military base with military jets flying in and out while they have thier laser-target-designator gear on (yes, they DO perform practice runs on cars...absolutely)...happens to me when I'm out towards Mt. Rainier and the whidbey island A-6 intruders are flying around....happened to me twice and the only things in the area that could generate a laser pulse were A-6's in my line of sight....
listen to what mr. val1 is trying to tell you.

ya got that right jony.
i always ride with two fingers on the front brake, so when that thing goes off i'm on the front brake before i'm off the throttle.
brakes are going on full as/before the throttle is coming down.

this is loosely refered to as "excessive trail braking".
with your RR experience, you probably do it too....and you know it CAN put you on your head if you're pointed the tiniest, teensiest bit crooked.

sure works good for hauling that thing down though. and since the paralever doesn't dive as much, there isn't much of a visual impression that you're slamming on the binders, if said officer happens to be in line-o-sight.

and one second is actually a long time. if you can say the word "butterfly", you can break a second down to three syllables, each taking 1/3 of a second to say. i'll betcha that you can get on the brakes and out of the throttle (in that order) in less than a second. sometimes, it makes the difference.

...brad

I run with laser difuser /confuser I don't have to pay attention too close.... with radar you have a little more time to see him before they can get a lock when your on a bike.

This is my setup: V1 and the Garmin eMap.

The rubber band keeps the electrical connector on. I still haven't came up with a cleaner solution but this one is simple and effective.

I just put my 8500 under the clear plastic window on my tank bag, aims straight ahead at a good angle. I sewed some vecro onto the top lid of the bag and taped a piece on the underside of the detector. If you put a map on top, it's very stealthy. Plus the HARD system. Gotta clean off the "Legal Speeding" print on the helmet module...

Still want to organize a group buy for the Escort laser shifter...
