Pricing help on Boxer Cup
Hey Guys
I've decided to sell my Boxer Cup Replica and buy a new K1200s and I need some advice on what to ask for it. It's a twin spark, with heated grips and ABS. It only has 6500 miles on it and it's in beautiful shape. Can anyone give me a ball park figure on what its worth? My dealer will give me $9200.00 on a trade for the K12. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks MJC |

First you have to find a buyer. There is not necessarily a readily available market for these bikes. An acquired taste, like a real good wine, but not everyone wants.
Plus it would help to know what year it is. Look at NADA.com and then price accordingly, although the bikes are about $1,000 high.

I've gone to the dark side !!!
Well... today I stopped by the local Ducati dealer and ended up test riding a 749... they had a brand new '04 749 on the floor marked down from $13.5k to $12.5k... plus some other goodies ($500 worth of accesories, etc.).
They offered me $10.5k in trade for my '04 Boxer Cup Replika... I took the deal. Since here in Wisconsin you only have to pay sales tax on the trade difference ($2000) and not the whole sale it helps sweeten the deal. So on Saturday I pick up the 749.... look for some r1100s stuff to be offered for sale by me soon.... t

If it's a twin spark, it has to be an '04. The bad news is you're competing against brand new ones with 0.9% financing and 5 free payments. What's MSRP on your bike, $14,700ish? So maybe the "present value" adjusting for the incentives might be around $12K? The good news is there may not be any new '04 Replikas around, especially with ABS, but probably some SAs?
Sounds like $9,200 was a fair trade-in quote. Based on that, you (or the dealer) could expect to sell it for around $11K, but it may not happen too quickly. I always price things a little higher than the most I would expect to get for it, so you have room to come down. Buyers really want to see some discounting, even when they're paying on the high side. Do you have time before the K12S is available? www.craigslist.org is free and you could also put it in www.cycletrader.com and in the local paper while you have time.

Thanks for the advice and you're right my bike is a 2004. Lucky for me I didn't order the K1200s yet, I won't until I sell my bike. I am just looking for advice on a fair price for the BCR from people who probably know a lot more about the subject than me. 11 grand sounds ok by me. Thanks again |

MarkJon, remember that there is a extra cost to the K12S that some don't know about. Your insurance skyrockets. Worth every penny however.

MarkJon,
Sounds like a pretty fair trade price to be honest. I'd have a hard time beating it. However I have 2 new K12S's on the showroom floor looking for new homes and a 3rd thats a Demo and about available for sale with discount. What colors/options are you looking for. You may not have to order anything as it could very well be sitting on my floor. 866-984-9844 ext#24

Thanks for the information and offer, I want a blue/white K1200s (imagine that)but I have a very nice relationship with David at Bloodworth BMW in Nashville and when I buy the new K1200s it will probably be from him. They have always treated me great and I'd like to keep that good relationship. I' sure you have a great store and I'll keep you in mind. I think sometime this weekend I'll take a few pictures of my bike and test the waters on the Internet. I'm really not in a big rush, it's going to be very hard to sell my Boxer, It was love at first sight and it's still a great looking and riding bike, wish there was some way to keep it... Thanks again Mark |

Bobby,
Do you know how the K1200S is fairing system wide? Sales beating expectations? Inventories low or high. I know you can only share your opinion.

Try to work out a good deal on the K1200S and you'll save yourself a lot of time and hassle trying to sell the R to a private person for maybe $1000 more! |

Thats only 30 more than what I pay on my 02 SBX. And that is 365 days a year coverage at max limits of protection. Cant wait to get one next year after the beta testing is done Robert

When I got my Replika, I had a nearly year old R1150R. The dealer offered me around 8k for it. The difference of what I owed (ABS, bags...total price was around $13k total minus the payments already made.) would be rolled in with the purchase of the Replika. I figured that I could easily sell it for more than $8k with the bags and Ohlins and Remus exhaust and other goodies so I just bought the Replika and put the bike up for sale. Right after I bought the Replika, BMW began their .9% financing with first 5 payments paid by BMW and it was all over. With the financing and payments, someone could pretty much buy new for what I owed except for the aftermarket stuff. After I realized it wouldn't sell for what I needed, I began to sell the accessories to help make the payments and lower the selling price. Bottom line is that I had the bike for about a year before it sold and when I sold it I just got enough to pay it off. So I lost out on a years worth of payments which turned out way more than what I'd have paid if I just took the trade. I'd say if they're offering $9,200, take it and don't look back, you're getting a good deal. Let the dealer try to get more for it and cut your losses and keep 'em small.

Initially BMW's forecast was that 60% of the K12S buyer would be completely new to BMW Motorcycles. I would say that is very appropriate as we have only sold 3 and 2 were new to BMW Motorcycles all together. However they were older then the "target" market and I have 3 sitting in inventory now that have been here for a little while and sent 1 off to another dealer. Some dealers are selling out, but have less allocation then us. And other dealers are in the same boat with just steady sales on the K12S. What we really need is K1200R's. They have limited production/allocation and I have a demand for them. I guess I just need to hide the K1200S so I can play hide the carrot or something, LOL

I'd take the $9,200 and run. The R1100S are kinda soft in the southeast. Also, don't forget that you will only pay sales tax on the difference if you trade...................somewhere in the neighborhood of a $600 break.

Is the R11S market softness limited to the southeast? If you watch ebay and look at Traderonline the market seem soft in North America in general. Of course I am looking to purchase a R1100S in September(ish) and puts me in a better position than the sellers at this time. What predictions are there concerning the resale value once the R1200S hits the streets?
