Toolkit

Okay, I'm finding out things daily about my new R1100S. Since I essentially had a US model built for me for European delievery, there is some wierdness in what should and should not be on the bike. What I need to know from someone with a US spec bike is whether or not you get the lug wrench and socket in the tool kit. The manual is not very clear as to what is standard. Even tho I got a US spec model, it was delivered without the seat cowl, centerstand, and missing the two aforementioned tools.

I got the cowl and centerstand, but I'm being told by the dealer that if you get the centerstand that you don't get the lugwrench. Makes no sense, as if you didn't have the centerstand, what good would the lugwrench do you? Seems like I got a half european/half US bike.

Didn't you say you received the 5.5"/180 rear combo in an earlier post? Maybe you got the "Sport" model, which is supposed to be available stateside, though no one has seen it. This model has no centerstand, uprated rear shock, and maybe a few other things.

BMW practice is that they do not include the lug wrench on bikes sold without centerstands. FWIW: They also go into detailed explanations of how to change front and rear tires in the manual, but they do not tell you how to change the oil. That's BMW. They have a unique logic. Ask them why it takes three hands to use their turn signals sometime.

If you want to trade your rear wheel for a 5.0"/170, plus a centerstand and lug wrench with low miles, please call.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I didn't get the sport model, I got a model built how I wanted it. I'm an American living in Italy (soon to be Germany) and ordered a US spec bike. I was able to have it built however I wanted, so I had them throw on the larger wheel/tire ($79) heated grips ($100) and the luggage rails ($120). Didn't pay taxes, and you don't want to know how much I paid for the bike. I can tell you that the Euro-spec model here in Italy before taxes is about $10,500.

I'm thinking that whoever built the bike got confused at that point, because they left the seat cowl and centerstand off. I did get those items from the dealer, then noticed some tools were missing. The manual is not to clear, and the way it reads to me is that if you DO have the centerstand, you DON'T get the tools (lug wrench and socket).

At this point I don't think it's worth it fighting BMW / the Dealer for the tools.

I'll carefully consider your offer on the lug wrench...
