longer O2 sensor wire
Hi guys,
I know you guys already have clue of what I'm about to ask ... Yes I purchased a Y pipe on eBay Germany last week and received it well. I tried this WE to mount it myself, so the first thing I did is a big search on our wonderful knowledge base. I found pretty much everything I was looking for (tricks, traps, tools, ... in a total of 4 or 5 threads). But ... I was about to fully complete the installation of the cat eliminator when I noticed the O2 sensor wire was way to short and prevented the O2 sensor to fit in the dedicated hole of the pipe. Since you're pretty fast, I supposed you've already guessed the brand of the pipe ... Yes that's a Laser ... How am i supposed to fit the O2 sensor now ? Where can I find a longer wired one ? Thanks for your help. J |

I think if you lift the tank a bit you will see that the O2 sensor wire is bundled up with a nylon tie-wrap and that the wire is plenty long. There was plenty of wire to the sensor after installing the Laser sport cat eliminator and that one places the sensor much further back than most.

there is definitely some extra wir ein the line, but dont expect it to run in the same place as stock. mine runs kinda diagonally across the tranny, down to the bung.

What they said. Clip tie and reroute as necessary. Has worked for many of us current and ex Laser cat-elim owners. No problem.

You should search the forum for O2 sensor information. I bought the Bosch replacement sensor recommended by the people of ADVrider forum and replaced my old one (at half the cost). I clipped off the old sensor cable as it had the correct plug on the end, then spliced the 4 wires, soldered them, pulled heat shrink tubing over each connection and finished it off. Mine is a good foot longer than stock.
Also remember to rotate the sensor several complete turns against the threading direction so that the cable will be relatively straight (not twisted) when it is screwed into place.

Sounds like I 've been a bit lazy installing the the pipe ... It was on sunday evening and I knew I had to ride the bike on monday morning to go to work. I decided not to take the "lift the tank to see what's there" option. I should have ...
So, do never work your bike when in a hurry. I should really know that now :/ Anyways, thanks all of you for your great advises. As always when I come around this forum, I'm never disappointed when looking for info. ![]() I'll give that a try this WE. J

Yeah, you guessed it. The original sensor was full of carbon and looked bad. I replaced it (at 78K miles) did the throttle body synchronization and cold valve adjustment and the bike was like a new machine. Improved the gas mileage a LOT!

Or was it while you were at the cat replacement, you saw the O2 sensor state and decided to change it. I know I also have to do a valve clearance adjustment. You're the second person I read telling it improves the gas mileage (and it's about time to do it). I should definitly find some time to do it ... just as a hint, how much time did it take you ? J |

I had rough idle (mostly the valve setting and TB balance) but I also had crummy gas mileage, down around 30 MPG no matter how I treated the throttle. Then I saw the carbon, and looked at the miles on the odometer (75K). Just figured it was time. Now I can squeeze 37 MPG out of the bike if I stay out of the heavy acceleration.

merv, rich as mine is, and it is, as the plugs look correct and it surges not a whit, I still average 40-44 minimum with a heavy throttle hand. I don't understand mileage below 40 out of these things without something being wrong....

As to cleaning an O2 sensor, I think you are just looking for trouble. I don't think you can remove the burned in ions that are shorting out the sensor and making it behave badly. It's just a matter of age. Ditch the beech and get a new one.

I'm gonna dive into this Power Commander thread to fetch basic info.
I've spent a little time to look for a price and already found 2 different desciptions of the same reference kit (920-611) : one is not clear whether the O2 sensor is an option, the other says it's a PCIII and not a PCIIIUSB ... Anyway, thanks again for the tips. ![]() J
