What is the best way Need Help.

Hey working on taking out the rear suspension and need to know if it is easier to loosen up the exhuast in the front and try to slide the exhuast forward to get the suspension bolt out, or should I take the mufflers and tail header off. I don't have a cat.

Getting the mufflers off the rear frame can be work...
When you say rear suspension do you mean swing arm and moving parts.. or just the shock?

If you mean the entire suspension system I like to pull the rear subframe with mufflers as a unit...

then you have easy access to whatever you want to work on.

heres a cat if you need one.

Actually... I have been fighting a chronic Prostate infection since before I did Flattbutts transmission... Oct-Nov.. 2006..... I have been on Cipro for many weeks and finally got the doctor to change my meds due to the bad depression it gave me... I have been miserable for 5 months and everytime I ride I get sick again. Oh and today I came down with the flu as well... TMI but I am kinda nutty anyway... I heard Laughter is the best medicine so I am trying that out...

Nope..I had it before he arrived.....I took a nasty hit from the front part of my seat, directly to the prostate while Mountain bike riding in the mountains... Infection went away once, came back after Falling leaf rally, then went away again, but I have been riding my KTM a lot and it has aggravated the healing process

Ok Ok enough jokes I need some good advice here, I just need to get the rear shock out and the bolt won't clear so I need to drop the exhaust. I just don't want to start removing stuff that I don't need to. Is it easier to slide the exhuast forward or remove the rear mufflers?
I don't have a cat and I don't want one!!!

Getting the mufflers off the rubber hangers can be hard. Getting the headers off the bike also often yields twisted off bolts.
Which is why I prefer to take the subframe off with the mufflers... only 4 bolts!!!
Try loosening the cat eliminator pipe, and removing the rear (lower) subframe bolts... should get you enough room to get the shock bolt out

wswartzwel - thanks for the humor and the pictures- i was planning on taking the engine out of frame to weld broken rear bracket but now i see taking frame off engine is the way to think of it. inspiration without the persperation. - get well, get strong - ride dirt keeps my sanity also.

dbltailexit...Which brackets are you welding?

I welded the top 2 tabs with the bike still assembled less the plastic, and added a couple gussets...

yes the two top, any other tricks.
my welder had asked me to get it so the material would be horizontal for best results. he's tig and mig and he tells me aluminum is harder to weld then stainless. i'm just a arc welder on farm equipment hacker. thanks

Yes aluminum requires tedious cleaning... Any paint or foreign material and it just splatters instead of flowing together. Using a tig is best and should not require horizontal placement of items to be welded... Mig makes a mess and works better laying flat.. Removing the frame and thorough cleaning/sanding would be the best way.. Since this was my bike I opted for the shortcut. 15K since then, and it is still holding.

to pull the mufflers
take off whatever is bolted to the plate bracket for the muffs
fab up a steel plate that bolts up where you took off the other stuff.
now fab a connector (i just drilled a hole in the plate I made) and hook up a slide hammer to it.
2 pulls of the slide weight and the muffler assembly is in your hot little hands.
easy, no-sweat method of doing a normally b!tch of a job.
