I love 'em too, but you're right that they might not work that well in Puget Sound area. One big problem is finding them for sale...aspens grow mostly from root sprouting, seed production is minimal, so propagating them commercially just doesn't pencil out. They're one of the things I miss most about living in the Sierras and have thought about poaching a couple some day and transplanting them to my yard. Scientific name Quaking Aspen is Populus tremuloides, they get that characteristic quaking because the petioles (leaf stems) are at right angles to the leaf, so something always catches the wind. Evolutionary adaptation for high altitude trees to dump excess heat from intense summer sunlight.

Hmm, I do go on, don't I?

Ciao! Bill J

Well don't feel too sorry for him, he hasn't done too bad for himself if you look at imdb.com

This is in my front yard from about a week ago and I thought I would share. We were heading out for a ride, sorry I am no photographer. The front Maple is always one of the first to go in the area, which tells me winter is coming. When the maple behind it goes then winter is here FOR SURE!

By this week almost all of the leaves are off of the first one.....EEEEK winter is coming!!!

at my house, the "color show" is when the bermuda grass goes from greenish to tan when it gets down to below 50 at night.

I'll spare you the picture. its just sad.

Bad thing is Ralf, people are so poor in Missouri they have to secure the outhouse to a telephone pole to keep 'em from stealin' it. lol
