mediocre pictures half a world from home... to be followed no doubt by a good beer, and later by a sandstorm....

Nice ride report! Looks freezing cold however. Does that bike have the heated grips? Polk County line can be a bad place I hear...

How did you keep the D40x at the ready for all the pictures?

No Heat on the Dakar

Some were taken with a cheap little Canon... The D40X rode in the tankbag

Well,
I had grand plans to pack up the GS, and the wife and go Exploring/Camping.
The weather was a bit cold and unpredictable, so I decided at the last minute to take the jeep.

We were off to a good start.

Lots of great scenery.

Shores Creek was flowing nicely..

Heading up to White Rock Mountain.

We arrived at Devils Den and discovered the place was packed due to the War Eagle event...

So we drove out in the National forest to camp... But all the woods were soaked, and even gasoline wouldn't make a fire. So, we went back home.

Today, however, I had much better luck. My son and I, rode up to visit my 77 year old dad.

The three of us went for a ride... This is the first time I have ridden with the old man since 1985... We rode up to Kentucky and back.

He quit riding in about 1989, when he ran over a small piece of steel in the road that immediately deflated his front tire... Causing his Goldwing to go down, Mom was riding pillion and got a broken wrist out of the crash. Guess he just didn't want to ride anymore after that. Well now it is 20 years later, he goes out and buys himself a sportster 1200...

I haven't seen him as happy as he was today in a long time!!! I guess riding with your son is one thing many of us fathers hope to experience... But riding with your grandson might be a little more rewarding.
